Official thread: NHL players that are placed on waivers

From Bob McKenzie's latest article

I do not believe the Calgary Flames intend to buy out forward Ales Kotalik. It's more like, "we can now bury you in the minors, maybe you want to play in Europe instead?" Also, the Flames can't afford to use valuable cap space on a buyout. The aim is to find a spot for Kotalik, where he doesnt count against cap and someone else pays.

Flames placed Nigel Dawes on waivers, with Sutter stating that if there are no takers he will be bought out. I am almost as baffled by this move as I am the signing of Jokinen. Dawes was a solid player last year and buying him out is only going to save about $650k. You might as well have kept him on at $850k. I mean, what kind of quality are you going to get for that little money?

I would take Dawes at 850K any day, well worth the money for a penalty killing forward of his caliber. Not looking good in Calgary these days, the Sutter curse continues.

The Flames are in complete disaray. Hope they haven't dealt next year's first rounder - it may be a pretty early pick.
