The best LCS you've ever been to.

Hey guys,

Wondering what the best LCS is that everyone has been to. Could be the LCS in your town, or one you have visited while on vacation. Just a couple of words why and what set that one apart from the rest.

For me it's definitely the CnC shop in Kitchener. They have a bar area set up with comfy seats and tables set up for busting your wax and trading. There are also about 8 LCD TV's spread throughout the shop so you can watch the games while you are conducting your card business. They also have an awesome blog room set up that looks a lot like a radio booth that is used for the online breaks. Very friendly dudes who are very hobby knowledgable and always willing to help collectors out.

Back in the hey day, Legends of the Game was like a museum as much as a card shop and I always looked forward to a visit. It may only be a hint of it's former self, but that goes for the hobby itself and it's still an interesting shop to be in.

Sticking to the hey day, Collectors Corner in my hometown of North Bay was awesome! I wonder if anyone on here ever set foot in that store back then. It was my childhood paradise in my hometown as much as Legends was when I was a kid visiting Toronto.

I have to give Queensway Sportscards the nod for best shop in Toronto. It appears unassuming, but once inside you see a plethora of singles, wax at reasonable prices, knowledgeable staff, and tons of monster boxes of commons (good to see a shop that still values commons and killing base sets as much as the high end).

CnC in Kitchener is outstanding. They are paying attention and not being complacent by taking a unique approach to serving the hobby. I was there on their grand opening and will always pay a visit when I visit K-W.

I haven't been at their new location yet, but I was impressed with The Ice Box in Barrie too.
 
To be absolutely honest, I usually find the best LCS's are the ones that go the extra mile to treat their customers well. I know from Hockey to Hollywood is awesome, I go there a lot. I have never been to Ice Box in Barrie, but Wayne's great! I have been to Queensway a few times and Paul is great too..

There is one LCS in North Carolina that was great a few years back. I can't remember the name but they gave you a shot of whiskey every time you bought a box. Now I only went once but I liked the whiskey LOL

I grew up with AB. D. Cards in the back of Book Fair in Winnipeg. That's where I bought my Lemieux RC for 25 cents back in 1985 or 86. Barry and Dale were fun guys to hang out with for a Saturday. Best memories reside with that shop. Then Joe Daley's opened up later in the 80's and he had some great vintage. And then Superstar's sort of took over as the best shop in Winnipeg. Upper Deck, Argy's and Sports Card Connection (is Mike Gogol still in the biz?) were around too but the proprietor's were never quite as much fun to hang out with.

Anyway, once I move to Calgary, Maple Leaf Sports became the best shop I have ever been to. Darren is a great guy and his shop is kept cleaner and more organized that the freakin Holt Renfrew downtown. With his new location, the shop has simply become better as Darren has taken all the positives he had in the old location and complemented those with more space and more product.

All that said, I am dying to get to the C&C shop and camp out there for like a week. Their store hours alone make me wish I lived up the street from them. I had the chance, on the Saturday night of Expo, to get there for the Diamond Club event but was just too tired and hungry after the show that day to make the drive so went for a steak and then to bed instead. I will get there one Expo weekend soon though!
 
Players Choice in Kelowna. Not only have Dean & Jason hooked me up with some of the finest cards in my Josh Gorges collection, they're great guys to talk to about the hobby and the sport. Great prices on the cards & wax too. Little bit too much Vancouver Canucks stuff in the place, but other than that, hard to complain about the place.

I visit them every time I go visit my parents in Kelowna. Great guys for sure but very light on the wax. Their singles selection however is among the best.
 
Locally there are only two shops I will go to now. Superstars and Joe Daley's. Joe is hands down the best guy in the hobby, it's always a pleasure to go in there to just talk sports with Joe. Superstars has great selection, and all the guys there are great as well.

As for other places I've been, I really enjoy visiting Players Choice in Kelowna and Maple Leaf Sports in Calgary. Both are great shops and run by great people.... Yes even that Darren guy at Maple Leaf Sports :D :p
 
I havent been in a card store for over 2 years :-(

Penns in Sask will always have a place in my heart, Saturday mornings with Q and the regulars was great. The place may not shine but the people do.

I also miss Julie in Calgary who spent a lot of time and effort talking to the new guy when I first arrived.

MLS and KardSharks also get a mention as places that I want to visit more!
 
lous coin and stationary and ricks sports cards. two of the finest LCS probably in SW ontario. sadly both are now deceased. what we have left will never compare.
 
Also a big fan of Wayne's in Edmonton. It's one of those places that I think all of us have heard about at some point. I got to go a couple years back and it really is an impressive store.
 
I am lucky enough to have 2 great shops in my area: Gamebreakers in Ottawa and Le Coin de la Carte Sportive in Gatineau. Both are always great places to hang out and shoot the proverbial poop and have a wide variety of wax, supplies and singles available
 
Mojo's in North Vancouver. I miss my usual Saturday hangout, but my wallet doesn't...though I guess I still hang out with Derek. I just don't pay $200 every Saturday to do it :p
 
When I think about card shops I always think of the small store of my childhood, Home Run Hobbies. I used to beg my brother to take me with him and I'd always get a few packs of football. Probably no more than 200 square foot, but it was always a blast.

Nowadays the only store I'll visit in Columbus is Chuck & Barb's. Chuck is a good guy who loves the Blue Jackets. He's always looking to help out my Russell collection and showing me the new Jackets stuff he's picked up. Only place in town I actually trust to be totally legit.
 
I love my shop Ultimate Sports Cards in North Bay
But also Gamebreakers in Ottawa, and the CNC shop in Waterloo is awesome.

Player's Choice in Kelowna - I visit the Okanagan every summer and make sure to stop by, huge selection of singles, many of which are of Rocket alumni, which the hockey player in my sig just so happens to be. :D

Maple Leaf Sports in Calgary - Darren has a great shop with a ton of selection! Since his move it's a little harder for me to make the trip though (30+ min drive in good weather), but I try to make a visit whenever I don't have anything going on.

+1, and Derek had great prices as well imo. I think that's why we would all spend a lot of money. Had to many great deals that you couldn't pass them up.
 
Fastball Sportscards on Yonge St used to be my favourite shop. Never could you find in one place so much "rare" cards. It seemed like every card was priced accordingly followed by the word "rare". You could walk into that place 10 times in one day and they would tell you that they had a new distributor that offered them the ability to sell boxes for the best price in the country. Upper Deck for $175? I'll take six boxes!
