Ducks GM won't be the Ducks GM for long if he considers UFA's untouchable on a team that probably will not make the playoffs. Koivu and Selanne aren't untouchable, he's just using it as a negotiation tactic.

Koivu and Selanne both have NTC's in their contracts. No negotiation tactics there. Really hard to move them if they don't want to go....

Rob. Can't say much about Koivu, but I think we can all be relatively assured that Teemu would retire before accepting a trade.

For years now, he has always indicated if he comes back each year, it will only be with the Ducks. He has never considered signing with another team. You really think he would accept a trade given this?

Heck, he could have signed with Winnipeg in the off-season, which would have been sweet, but he didn't; going back to the Ducks instead.

That would probably be the only trade he accepts, and at this point the Jets are only 1 point out of 8th. He might enjoy giving them a burst.

Not saying it will or should happen, but I think this is the only trade Teemu would allow.

He was asked that question in an interview and he said as much as he loves Winnipeg he will not be leaving Anaheim. He has a NMC in his contract for a reason

That is not the end of it for sure. If the Ducks are out of the playoffs and the Jets are in or have a strong chance of being in, Teemu would be able to go to Winnipeg for up to three months of hockey (mid-March to mid-June) without having to move his family from Anaheim, which is his reason he stated what he stated. He doesn't want to move them and he wouldn't have to if it was only for a few months.

Teemu's son plays on one of the top ranked bantam teams in the states, and their state/region playoffs are in March, and Teemu wants to see as many of their games as his NHL schedule will allow. I talked to a number of parents from his sons team a couple weeks ago and unless Teemu is not telling them the truth, he is not.going anywhere. Could he be traded, sure. But if we could bet on it in Vegas, I would put every dollar I have on him staying put.

As much as it would make for a nice storybook ending - I sincerely doubt that is a real option. Even if there were a trade - Winnipeg still needs to build depth in their organization in trying to rebuild from years or horrible management in Atlanta. What would be accomplished in acquiring Selanne - in the big picture - the Jets are by no means a top Cup contender at this point, with a road record that needs a lot of improvement.

Giving up an asset - even for Selanne, while creating more anticipation in MB, might raise expectations so unrealistically, that massive disappointment is inevitable. That and giving up a potential asset, would it be really worth it?

And personally - I'd love to see him return back to Winnipeg - but I just don't see it happening
 
I got free tickets to the Ducks/Stars game last night and this Habs fan couldn't have been happier to see Koivu pot a hat trick live.
