BLACKHAWKS at BLUES

(St. Louis leads best-of-7 series, 1-0)

TV: NBC, CBC, RDS

Big story: It will be difficult for Game 2 of this Western Conference First Round series to top Game 1 from an entertainment standpoint. Alexander Steen's goal 26 seconds into the third overtime gave the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Each team has positives to take into Game 2. The Blackhawks got highly skilled right wing Patrick Kane (goal) and captain Jonathan Toews (two assists) back from injuries that sidelined them down the final stretch of the regular season. The Blues saw a group of banged-up players return, including captain David Backes (assist on Steen's goal) and forward Vladimir Tarasenko (goal).

"You try to get as much sleep as you can, but I think everyone feels really good right now," Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford said Friday. "We're in good shape and we're ready to go. We have that hunger, a little bitter taste … I think we had a chance to win that hockey game being up in the third period. Had a couple opportunities, a bunch of opportunities in overtime. We're ready to go for Game 2."

The late goal in the third of game one was a kick to the nuts, and then losing in the 3rd OT sucked. I can see a big pushback by the Hawks today ...

GO :hawks:

Need to bounce back here, almost stole game 1, but Crawford again lets in a weak one late in the third. I can't count high enough to remember how many times he gave up a late goal to blow a lead or a tie to lose outright. And, if you go look at their OT record this year, not good.

Q had a right to be upset about the totally blown non-call in OT that would have given them a 5 on 3 pp, but, he really needs to take some of the blame for the loss. They put 3 in on Miller in the first period and Ryan looked rattled. So much pressure to win is squarely on his shoulders, but instead of keeping the pedal down to max and chasing him which would have really blown his confidence, he decided to play the typical defense first style and try to protect the lead. You cannot do that against a team as good as the Blues. You keep skating around their slow defense and pepper that rattled goalie. I think if they had stuck with the same game plan for the second period, Miller would have been pulled and they could have been up 2-3 goals instead of 1 going in to the third.

Oh well, if there is a good loss, I think we saw it. They had the favored (higher seed and won the season series) home team on the ropes and took them to triple OT. So, they know they can beat the Blues, they can steal one in St. Louis and then come home to one of the biggest home ice advantages in all of sports. Go get em boys, lets get one today.

Chicago got the sticks swinging already.... Keith 2 hands tarasenko and then the refs call a penalty on St. Louis for finishing a check???

This one is going to get nasty!!!

Here's hoping this series goes 7. (although I picked Chi to advance)

[EDIT] = 1-0 for St. Louis...

Followed up by a dirty high hit by Seabrook. And what the hell is Toews doing chirping Backes? I expect more from Toews, no class there.

Backes was sliding down, which is the only reason he got hit in the head. Still an awful hit.

As much as I think there's a little karma to see Backes get it considering how cheap he can be with hits, glad he's okay.

Seabrook should get a couple of games for that one.

No way, only because it was a "hockey play" with an unfortunate outcome. If they suspend him, a guy who has never been suspended before, on a "hockey play", but Lucic gets away with a deliberate "non-hockey play" intent to injure, then that is complete and total BS.

Now, I am a realist, so I fully expect Seabrook to be suspended for 3-5 games because he does not play for the Bruins.

That's twice now the refs have completely screwed the Hawks, blatantly, and it cost them both games. The refs have had more of a negative impact on this series so far then all the other series combined. I am so f'ing done with the NHL and their inconsistent officiating and justice. After 42 years I can honestly say I couldn't care less if I watch another NHL game. I'd rather go watch kids play at the rink for fun and free instead of watching this complete and total embarrassment they have turned this league in to. The NHL is the laughing stock whipping boy of professional sports and I am done trying to find a way to enjoy it. They wonder why the NHL can't compete with MLB and NFL and even NASCAR, well, just watch the first two games of this series and how they completely screwed one team, and the whole Lucic incident, and that's all you need to know. People in the States and even Canada (who have NHL in their damn DNA) are sick of this BS they are trying to shove down our throats.

Seabrook, shouldn't have even have gotten a penalty. He played the play correctly, but Backes took it like a f*****n girl. I am still pissed that Seabrook got a penalty at all; at worst I would have been ok with a 2 minute minor. But because he got a major and probably a suspension, that is BS.

Also, because of the penalty, the bLOSE were able to score a goal. I ain't no Crawford hater or nothin, but you have to keep the puck out for another 7 seconds. But Mr. I Don't Have Time to Sign Hockey Cards, of course scores the goal to send it to OT.

I am FURIOUS right now.

And I still do not know how in the lords sane of H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEYSTICKS how stupid the officials are in St. Louis. Are the from the Missouri area and what the bLOSE to win? Both games in STL were complete garbage, and a 4 year old could have called a better game. The officials are probably just so random guy they found on the streets who needed money, and gave him the rule book of hockey, and just learn the game from there. This is supposed to have professional officiating, not random garbage men.

Anyways, enough rambling, just want to see the UC have its roof blown Monday and Wednesday, shut up all the fans in STL on Friday, and kick the bLOSE ars's on Sunday.

GO HAWKS!!!

Hawks shot themselves in the foot. Very undisciplined hockey from them. Should be interesting to see how this series goes from now until the end.

Seabs check was bad, Backes didn't even have the puck and principal point of contact was the face. If that hit was on Toews you'd be screaming for a suspension, those are the facts, and Seabs deserves a vacation.
