Step One To Fixing The Pens

It's honestly not worth it.

I only meant that the rumor being talked about is true. They have talked about it on several radio stations. Apparently his contract is up next year. I am not trying to say he will coach the Pens, just that the rumor is being talked about. Don't get your panties in a bunch. Geez, everything a Pens fan talks about on these boards pisses someone off.

That being said, I do not think it will happen, but I do think it will force Detroit into offering a big pay day.

Rumours are just that, rumours (yes that's how we spell it in Canada). It's also been rumoured that he's gonna end up in Toronto after next year (Babcock). Take that for what it's worth.

I think Bylsma's already as good as gone, deservedly so or not.

The Pens have a fair number of forward UFA's and RFA's this year - They could sign a few depth forwards in the off season and find at least a couple players that will do a better job of policing for Sid and Geno than what they have.

Problem is that they already have 55 mil committed to 14 players next year with Orpiks and Niskanen potential UFA's, and that's when Letang's 7.5 million kicks in. On the other hand, Fleury has one more year on his deal - maybe a goaltending swap somewhere during the season?

I think it will be more than 3 steps to reach the profit status.

Doesn't surprise me that Bylsma will be fired.

Shero should also take some of the blame here. With the prices for rentals like Gaborik, Moulson, Vanek, etc so low at the deadline I was surprised to see the Pens go out and get ..... Stempniak and Goc.

I also agree with you guys, changes are needed. They are a great regular season team but don't have the grit or all around team skill to go pass the first few rounds. Good team but not great, very top heavy but lots of weak links imo including the goaltending, to inconsistent.

I agree with your post entirely.. I would add a little more tweeks, but this is good.. The coach definitely needs to be a tougher type no nonsense coach

i'll start with
1. fire bylsma
2. get someone to protect the star players to put on a 3rd or 4th line.
3. find depth in maybe a checking forward
4. spread the talent out a little. you need at least 3 lines who can score. even 4 if you have the players.

Im probably wrong in what I've written, but maybe some pens fans can chime in with some other ways to help the team do better next year

The team is against the wall for the next season in terms of cap space. If they let all of their UFA's walk (Orpik, Niskanen, Jokinen, Stempniak, etc.) and let go of Sutter as an RFA, they have 15 million of free space with to sign a pair of defencemen, at least 6 forwards and a veteran backup if they're not comfortable with Zatkof.

The bold move would be to try and trade one of the current top 3-6 forwards and get a pair of roster players and a prospect back in return, which would either be Neal, Kunitz or Dupuis. My guess is of the 3 James Neal would probably get the Penguins the best return, poor showing in the playoffs notwithstanding.

I agree also...But since Shero is gone just add a new GM to the top....Have little idea who they should go after I am hoping for some positive changes.

I hope they make the change before the draft.

Rumors are just that...I would not put money on Mike Babcock coming to Pittsburgh before his contract expires....Can't think of a Pens fan that would not want this to happen but IMO it is not feasible.
Trotz might be more realistic...I would not be against promoting Jacques Martin.

Pens had 2 of th best forwards in the league in Lemieux and Jagr, made it to back to back SCF appearances and won both NEVER got back there again with the same team. Lemieux goes through health issues and no one thought Jagr would go but gets traded.

Years later Pens have 2 of the best forwards in the game in Crosby and Malkin Made it to back to back SCF and win one of them ............... Crosby went through health issues ..................

Just tossing this out there to remind people about hockey history and its repeating circular nature. In the new Salary cap days back to back SCF is impressive and holding a core together is very very hard. Hawks lost 15 players after their 2010 win and have been fortunate to get to where they are again. And its going to be interesting going forward to see what will happen when Toews and Kane's contracts are up next year. By signing 2 people to nearly 20 million you hamper what you can have for the rest of your team and you suffer in depth just the way it is.

I'm not saying it can't be done!!!!!!

I'm just saying you have to be lucky enough to get the right players playing the right way and most importantly at the right price!!!!

Don't forget about Fleury. He has only one year left on his contract, so they're either going to sign him or trade him...not play him for one year and let him walk.

Trade him to whom???
And I seriously doubt that they will extend him.

His fault... no.
But definitely part of the problem.
Just does not carry the team when they need him to.

If they don't sign him then who do they get? Zatkoff isn't a starter.....there are no BETTER starting goalies out there .....
