2013-14 Contenders Checklist posted

Ahh, and the card I was hoping to be able to acquire is /10 ... Well, there goes that. Bummer. Really like the Global Contenders set, I'll have to get the Canadian ones, sans Sid of course...

Retail Hangar Boxes includes 2 autos per Hangar Box. The autographs are retail exclusives and includes NHL Ink and Rookie Ticket autographs. The retail autographs are all stickers with the exception of redemptions. Retail redemptions will be for on card autographs that were taken out of the hobby pack out. There are also gold (/100) and black (/1) parallels for the retail exclusive cards. These retail (sticker) autographs do not appear in the hobby packs and do not have on card hobby variations. The checklists are exclusive only to retail. For example, the Tyson Barrie NHL Ink autograph can only be found in retail packs and he will not have an NHL Ink in hobby packs. Also, there will be Rookie Tickets featuring players with autographs only in retail. Michael Latta has a non-autographed Rookie Ticket in hobby, while he has a (sticker) autographed Rookie Ticket found only in Retail. Galchenyuk will only have the Rookie Ticket in hobby and won't have a retail card.

The full retail exclusive checklist will be posted this week on our blog, but here is the summary:

Chris, you guys made a couple of cards in this set that normally I would be all over, such awesome autos for a big Team USA collector. BUT, they are those pesky booklet cards, and I am one of those collectors who can't get past that hangup. I know booklets are a staple for Panini, but if they were like the SOTT cards with autos on both sides. I think they would be so much more highly collected. I know quite a few USA collectors in the same boat, they see the checklist with the Team USA Theme and start to drool, then realize they are booklets.

Maybe take a poll of collectors for their input and see how many prefer a double sided auto over a booklet for future releases in other sports, I really think it would be overwhelming in favor of doing away with the booklets, and it would jump Panini multi autos up the ladder of collectibility and "value" on the secondary market. Just a thought and some feedback, great cards that could be even greater IMHO.

Anyways, the rest of this product looks great and some of the subsets will do very well. Thanks for the peak and CL.

My question is, can you get all the cards in Retail that you can in Hobby?
I see there are Retail exclusive Auto's

No.

The main RC's - the on-card autos - are hobby exclusive.

The retail exclusives have sticker autos and are a select few from 101-150 and 275+

The NHL Ink #51-75 are also stickers. Those are only in retail.

These are the only autos available in the retail version, as well as the redemption cards for the on-card Rookie Tickets (179-241).

The others are hobby exclusive. So you can't get a Galchenyuk hard-signed Rookie Ticket in retail.

That's my reading of what Chris has posted anyways.

Base are same in both. All autos in Retail Hangar boxes are exclusive to Retail. There are no hobby autos in Retail or vice versa.

Additionally, out of the 100+ rookie autographs in Contenders, only 2 Rookie Ticket Signatures are redemptions in Hobby:

258 Valeri Nichushkin
272 Vladimir Tarasenko

All other Rookie Tickets Autographs in Hobby are live. We wanted to make sure the hobby boxes had as little redemptions as possible, and that's why some of the on card redemptions were moved into the Retail Hangar boxes.

Trying to figure out this checklist and I think I get most of it, but one question: what are the Variation (226-275) and Variation II (251-275) cards? For example, Tom Wilson (card #275) has three different versions listed.
