Murray new #1

He has yet to play 20 games in the NHL. I think the playoffs are his until he slips up in 2 consecutive games, which I am hoping he doesn't do.

Next season...I think they roll with 2 goalies until they near the trade deadline. How many young goalies have we seen have a hot start and are handed the starting job just to stumble?

Sometimes young goalies get hot. Ask Andrew Hammond. I think it would a mistake to give up on a guy like Fleury.

How many legitimate franchise type #1 goalies are there anymore? Fleury has taken a ton of heat in his career and plenty of it was not deserved. Yet he persevered through all of it and has proven to be a franchise goalie. Murray is young and looks good - so far. He may be the future, but if Fleury is healthy enough to play I think you have to go with him unless Murray is unbeatable. If nothing else - Fleury has earned his place and respect in the league.

I don't think so even if Pens wins Stanley Cup and he wins Conn Smythe...that Murray will becoming starter goalie for Pens in next season.
Because MAF is no doubt most popular hockey player in Pittsburgh locally, it will be riots if then because MAF is a eternal hero for youngsters in Pittsburgh forever.

Just remember when MAF was awful for 2 playoffs in straight for some seasons ago and
the locals blamed on everyone in the team but not MAF despite that it was he who was bad and not others but still seeing thorough their hands about it while we others sees something different about this. It wasn't kind words exactly about MAF here in sweden then....it was brutal words!

MAF have a very weak playoff stats compared with his pretty regular season stats, 5 playoff seasons with below 0.900% and only 4 playoff seasons with +0.900% is really laughable for playing with a such strong team.
That he's still staying at Pens just tells how popular he is despite never been a Vezina-finalist (7th as best and only been on Vezina shortlist just 2 times in his career with 7th and 8th place as best), so it is a awfully weak resume for a goalie with his status and salary.

So fast Murray gives up 4 or more goals in any of the next following matches so he is out no doubt and MAF comes in instead then.....I hope that Pens is smart enough to letting Murray continue to playing all games so long until Pens becomes champions or playing out of SC.

Sorry for a bit OT.....I'm not a MAF hater but I thinks that he's pretty overrated.
But never happens that Pens have a new starting goalie so long MAF remains active with his playing career in Pens, not a chance!

I think this is a case of the "perfect storm".

I think Fleury is having some injury/residual from concussions we are unaware of and Murray has stepped in and gotten hot at the perfect time.

I don't think MAF loses his gig come next year but I also don't think Pittsburgh will put him back in nets during the postseason if Murray continues to dominate. If it ain't broke...................

I kind of doubt that MAF is the most popular player in Pittsburgh, there is that one 87 guy - and I really doubt that there would be rioting in the streets if they keep winning regardless of who the goalie is.

Haven't we seen this movie before? New guy will get the cage until he struggles and the vet is healthy - where MAF may have gotten two or three bad games before a change was made, Murray will likely get one.

Great replies guys. I can see this becoming a Hockey equivalent of Lou Gehrig and Wally Pipp.

There'll be pretty much no doubt who will be exposed in the Expansion Draft, if and when it happens if Fleury is still in Pittsburgh. With the salary cap hell they're in, they will have to make moves this summer at least anyways.

Soonest the expansion draft would factor is the end of next year, but yes, they'd definitely expose Fleury over Murray if that decision was made today.

Murray is still making youthful mistakes, lots of big rebounds, etc. He's been great in general, but I'd like a year of the two playing together before deciding the future in net.

Both would be protected if the Expansion Draft happens this year. Murray is still on his Entry Level contract and cannot be drafted. So Pens would only need to protect Fleury.

Incorrect, expansion draft would happen after next season... Entry level deal is 3 years thus his would be up after next season

Absolutely, positively, 100% the wrong move to start MAF in Game 6.

Murray will be back in net. Sullivan likes to play mind games with the opposing team and press. Look at game 1 in the NYR series. I am sure he has already spoken with Fleury and Murray and let them know the plan.
