Just how bad is the mail right now?

May I ask why? There doesn't seem to be any reasoning behind this thought process.

My belief was that the postal service was not doing it's utmost in getting stuff moved to where they are supposed to get to, but upon doing some research I realized that is just the environment we live in now and mail delivery is not at the top of the list of essential services.

I’ve been getting updates on a few of my packages over the weekend so Canada Post is for sure working on the weekends. Not sure if it is all locations or just major hubs but mail is moving both Saturday and Sunday.

Very cool that they are trying to do what they can to catch up.

Just an FYI. This is a first for me but I have been told it has happened to others.

Made a trade with Eric (HammerHawks) and was surprised to see his end of the deal in my mailbox today. The reason I am surprised is that it never updated any tracking information once it hit the border.

Here is the tracking according to USPS

We didn’t find an item associated with this number. Find out why.

Really just wanted to point out that even thought your tracking isn't updated it could show up any day.

A bit scary for sellers though as someone who was unethical could just say they never received it.

Happens a lot I find with cards incoming from the States. I'm confident they'll arrive, as they always pretty much do, but yeah the lack of tracking can be uneasy at times.

I have a package coming from Oregon and it hasn't updated since August 5th. It is stuck in San Francisso so I am going to assume that Canada just hasn't updated the tracking.

This is the problem. I never know since I have had that one come with no update and the rest be significantly delayed.

This was the most recent delay.

August 04, 2020 05:50 Canada SHIPMENT RECEIVED BY DESTINATION COUNTRY
August 04, 2020 05:50 CA SHIPMENT RECEIVED BY DESTINATION COUNTRY
July 17, 2020 09:00 Los Angeles, CA, US SHIPMENT DEPARTED CARRIER FACILITY FOR INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT
July 17, 2020 09:00 LOS ANGELES,CA,90009,US SHIPMENT DEPARTED CARRIER FACILITY FOR INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT

So it looks like it was held for a 2 week quarantine, but the one from above arrived at the border on July 30th and came right through.

This one from the same sender of the first delay is still at the border.

July 28, 2020 08:00 Los Angeles, CA, US SHIPMENT DEPARTED CARRIER FACILITY FOR INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT
July 27, 2020 21:00 LAX USPS ISC SHIPMENT ARRIVED AT CARRIER FACILITY

I have only had one package (not tracked) go missing during all of this, everything else has been delivered but it has just been all over the map in terms of timing.

I've been waiting on a package from Canada that hasn't seen an update in a month. Have any of the fellow American peeps seen this? I originally thought, "Ok, maybe a two week quarantine process" but at this point I'm about ready to file a missing package report.

Your item was processed through our SAN FRANCISCO CA INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION facility on August 5, at 8:22 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

That was my latest tracking update and the package came from Oregon like I said in my earlier post. Even the wording is different in the tracking updates!!! I am expecting that at worst my package will be stuck in quarantine for two weeks, but my last package that came from NY was only stuck for 5 days.

Overall my mail has been pretty good whether from the US or Canada and even Europe. There have been some delays but nothing overly crazy except I bought a card from Russia back in mid May. It has tracking so it's been interesting tracking it lol

After leaving Moscow and bouncing around Russia for two months it finally left the country. It is currently in Warsaw Poland.

And it's not necessarily a Russian thing because I bought another card from Russia around the same time and got that one a long time ago.

I do have a card I ordered from Phoenix that's been stuck in LA for 2 weeks so far.

Ordering a card from Russia is always a roll of the dice in terms of wait times.

Pre-Covid, I'd usually receive a card from Russia in about 3-4 weeks on average. Now? I have one incoming that is currently on day 44.... It's in Canada right now, which is good, but still hoping to receive it soon.

I hope your cards gets to you quickly from here on out!

A USPS worker in a facebook group I am mentioned that staff is down 50%. No explanation was given, but I did enquire about it. He did say that sending something Priority is the same as sending something First Class and not to bother with the increased service.

President installed a shill as Postmaster General and he's slowly gutting USPS by cutting hours, overtime, routes and removing sorting machines from their distribution centers all in the name to 1. f--- up the election and 2. to fold the post office and make it a private company

Letters from Finland to USA are getting through faster than even before corona.

Letters from Finland to Canada are slow as hell.

Several stories showing up on Twitter re: USPS mail sorting machines. States that it is a reduction in service, not a re-allocation of resources.

Hundreds of USPS mail sorting machines are being taken out of service, VICE and CNN report.

According to internal documents obtained by VICE and CNN, the United States Postal Service is removing hundreds of high-volume mail-processing machines from facilities across the country. Around 500 mail sorting machines across the US will be taken out of service, according to documents obtained by Motherboard.

This accounts for about 15 percent of all USPS letter sorting machines.

Some of these machines have the capacity to sort up to 30,000 mail items and take only two Postal Service workers to run, according to machine technicians CNN spoke with.
They estimate it would take about 30 employees over their entire shifts -- they have to have scheme training to do the work -- to do that amount of work by hand.

What does this mean in the grand scheme of things? Are there any benefits to privatizing the postal service???

I bought a card from the LA area about two weeks ago. I still hasn't left LA county, but it has made the tour at least a half dozen facilities after sitting at the original one for over a week. It arrived at the International dispatch Tuesday and that was the last notification

Next time you mail that single card to you buddy in the next province over take it to one of the courier services. Then compare the price. Then you should be able to answer that question. You can mail it for under $2.00 The privately owned courier service will be at least 5X as much. I am not sure about the USPS. But it sort of looks like they can mail within the country for a couple bucks with tracking.I can almost guarantee you that if it is privatized ,those days will be hind them as well. I know that we all have issues from time to time with our respective postal services. But put it into perspective of just how many items get mailed ever day.Yet we complain because it took 24 hours more than maybe it should have. Or heaven forbid a card gets lost in the mail. One in 50 million packages mailed on Monday. And that only deals with mailing within our countries.Imagine the cost of sending that single from Ontario to Texas by courier.
For me I have absolutely no complains about our mail system. And in these times we are dealing with right now. We have to expect delay.Maybe lower our expectation just a bit. I made a deal with a person in New Brunswick. He mailed the package on Wed. I received it today. I am not sure if a courier could have done it quicker or not. But I can promise they would not do it as cheap. Just my thoughts on this whole mail talking stuff.

I'm having brutal luck with my local PO right now. I have one package sitting there for 7 days, and one that arrived there from NY in 2 days, was then shipped to Texas, back to the local PO, off to Florida, and is now once again sitting in Havertown.
