Checklist: 2020-21 UD Extended Series

And there goes my interestest in this update set.

Of course, why would UD put a fan favorite like Martinook or the leading goal scorer for Detroit like Erne in the product, yet include Fast, Paquette, Givani Smith, and Hirose in. *sigh*

PS. The last time Martinook had a non 1/1 card was in 2018-19 Compendium. Before that, 2017-18 OPC.

Again, for those of you who think a large scale release is completed a couple of weeks before release, this was probably put to bed by the end of February at the latest. It may take another season before things go back to normal. Other than potentially one small subset such as the Young Guns and Canvas Young Guns, the bulk of the set was done months in advance.

It was pretty apparent once Series 2 came out, without any veterans in new jerseys that this was where we were headed. And given the focus on the market on older sets and their inserts from 20-25 years ago, it was a way to bring back some old names and shiny inserts with the today's popular names. You can call it a quasi retro Chronicles type release - that's the best way I can equate it.

And again, if you don't like it, there's nothing to stop you from voting with your wallet. I know I've done that a fair bit in the last year with the pandemic pricing of a lot of products

So what do you want more- this or Skybox Metal?

I went with Extended because I got a pre-order at a good price. Skybox Metal, the few pre-orders I remember were much more expensive and sold out quickly.

I think that the market will be stronger on the PMGs, but it sounds like Metal will be an expensive break.

The OCD in me can't handle the multi-set stuff, especially knowing Aho was in diapers when some of the original sets came out.

2021- UD Extended, fine, but oh no, it's HoloGrFX? UD3?

(not to mention the UD3 cards are not modelled after the hockey release at all, so definitely a carryover from a different sport)

Are there easter eggs in this or unannounced inserts that are worthwhile? Could be fun if there's extras involved, otherwise value like in most sets will be a complete loss.

Finally some Toews cards. I wonder, if we consider the players that were ice-time leaders of their teams this season in both regular season and playoffs (for example, in total ice time instead of per game), how many others had to wait until July that they got any cards released for them?

Anyone know if the Rookie Class SE card didn't come with an auto stamped on it? Got a Brome without one but the other 2 have them

Watched some breaks today and I saw SE with and without. I cannot recall if I saw the same player with both versions.

Lots of amazing cards pulled from the boxes.

There is a new version of the Lafreniere YG with him in action. I know it will not be considered his true YG but it is a nice looking card.

There's also a Retro 2002-03 Young Guns Tribute card of Lafreniere also. I have a picture of it in the Podcast's Story on Instagram.

Here's the 20-21 Update YG of Lafreniere. Tough to hit, too. I agree, it's a nice looking card.
