Pre-season trades and signings

Coyotes acquire Gostisbehere, 2 draft picks from Flyers

The Arizona Coyotes acquired defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere and two 2022 draft picks from the Philadelphia Flyers, the team announced Thursday.

Philadelphia sent a second- and seventh-round pick to Arizona in the deal.

Gostisbehere has recorded 219 points in 381 games and spent his whole career in Philadelphia since being drafted by the Flyers in 2012.

He has two years remaining on his contract which carries a $4.5-million annual cap hit.

For Philadelphia, the deal helps the team navigate the realities of a flat cap.

"This was a difficult decision but one we thought was necessary given the reality of the salary cap," Philadelphia general manager Chuck Fletcher said. "Shayne has been a quality player for this organization since the moment he arrived in Philadelphia."

Hurricanes trade Nedeljkovic to Red Wings for Bernier, 3rd-round pick

The Carolina Hurricanes have traded goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to the Detroit Red Wings for the rights to unrestricted free agent netminder Jonathan Bernier and a third-round pick in 2021, the teams announced Thursday.

The Red Wings then agreed to terms with Nedeljkovic on a two-year contract worth $3 million per season, the team confirmed.

Nedeljkovic was a finalist for the Calder Trophy this past season. The 25-year-old went 15-5-3 in the regular season and emerged as Carolina's starter over Petr Mrazek and James Reimer. Nedeljkovic posted a .932 save percentage and 15.7 goals saved above average across 23 appearances and had a .920 clip in nine playoff games.

The Hurricanes tried to sign Nedeljkovic but couldn't get a deal done and wanted to avoid arbitration.

Hall, Bruins finalizing 4-year deal with $6M AAV

The Boston Bruins and Taylor Hall are finalizing a four-year contract worth $6 million per season, reports TSN's Darren Dreger.

The pact includes no-trade coverage, Dreger adds.

Boston acquired Hall from the Buffalo Sabres for a second-round pick and forward Anders Bjork before last year's trade deadline. Hall was an excellent fit on the Bruins' second line, and he immediately upped his production upon arrival with 14 points in 16 regular-season games.

Hall's new contract will make him the fourth-highest paid forward on Boston's team-friendly payroll. The winger trails captain Patrice Bergeron ($6.875 million), David Pastrnak ($6.66 million), and Brad Marchand ($6.125 million).

The Bruins will have an estimated $20 million remaining in cap space once Hall's contract is officially signed, per Cap Friendly. Veteran David Krejci and goaltender Tuukka Rask are among the key players on Boston's books headed to free agency.

The Kraken have moved Tyler Pitlick to the Calgary Flames

The Seattle Kraken has moved Tyler Pitlick to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2022.

Pitlick, selected by Seattle during Wednesday's expansion draft, joins his fifth team in four years and sixth of his NHL career. Typically a bottom-six forward, Pitclick had a career-high 27 points in 2017-18 with the Dallas Stars.

The move marks Seattle's first trade in franchise history, and helps move along what should be a busy off-season for the league's 32nd franchise.

Detroit Red Wings sign center Michael Rasmussen to three-year deal

The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed one of their restricted free agents, inking Michael Rasmussen to a three-year contract. PuckPedia reports that the deal will carry an average annual value of $1.46M. Rasmussen will earn $1M in 2021-22, $1.48M in 2022-23 and $1.9M in 2023-24.

After spending the entire 2019-20 season in the minor leagues, Rasmussen was back up with the Red Wings this year and played in 40 of the team’s 56 games. He recorded just three goals and 12 points those games, but obviously did enough to earn a new deal from the team. There’s something to be said for a 22-year-old center that stands 6-foot-6 and can handle himself defensively, but Rasmussen’s offensive production is still a concern.

OEL and Conor Garlands rights to Vancouver. 1st round pick, Louis Eriksson Jay Beagle and Antoine Roussel heading the other way per sportsnet.

This is a pretty significant trade. Buffalo gets Robert Hagg, Phillys 2021 1st and a 2023 2nd for Rasmus Ristolainen. Philly building up that defense with Ellis and Risto, hopefully that helps get Carter back on track.

A 1st and a 2nd for quite possibly the worst analytics dman in the league...sigh
To be real though, this is actually 1st, two 2nds, and a 7th plus Haag and Ghost (you have to count the Ghost trade that freed up the cap room). Cmon, they could just pay me to make these types of trades. Ristolainen will more than likely be better than he was in Buffalo, but that is a steep price to pay for a guy that you now need to resign or lose in a year. We are the Wild...or they are us?

How many worst analytics players has Buffalo had the last decade? Just curious. ;)

Very true! Flyers went down this road before with AMAC. Excuse for his bad analytics was that he played for a really bad Islanders team. Reality was that he played for a really bad Islanders team and he wasn't good. I would have been only mildly unhappy with just the 1st round pick for Risto (there couldn't have been that many teams trying to break the bank for him). However, the totality of the package that was traded in order to get him was insane. I am really hoping that he proves me wrong.

Cam Atkinson to the Flyers for Jakub Voracek

Sam Reinhart to the Panthers for Devon Levi and a 1st rounder next year.

Avalanche sign Makar to 6-year, $54M deal

The Colorado Avalanche have signed star defenseman Cale Makar to a six-year deal, the team announced Saturday.

Makar's contract carries an average annual value of $9 million, according to his agent, Brian Bartlett.

Makar, who was set to become a restricted free agent Wednesday, will only make $6.7 million in Year 6. Bartlett cited the potential end of the collective bargaining agreement in 2026 as a reason for the structure of the deal.

The 22-year-old was a finalist for the Norris Trophy last year. He became the only blue-liner to average a point per game in 2021 after recording 44 points through 44 contests.

Red Wings sign Marc Staal to 1-year extension

The Detroit Red Wings are bringing back defenseman Marc Staal on a one-year contract extension.

The deal is worth $2 million, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.

The blue-liner collected 10 points while playing all 56 games this past season. Detroit controlled 43.79% of the expected goals while the defensive-minded Staal was on the ice in 2021.

Kings sign Moore to 2-year, $3.75M extension

The Los Angeles Kings signed forward Trevor Moore to a two-year contract extension that carries an average annual value of $1.875 million, the team announced Saturday.

Moore, 26, had 10 goals and 13 assists in 56 games with the Kings last season. It was the first time in his career that he played a full NHL campaign.

The Kings acquired Moore in a 2020 trade that sent Kyle Clifford and Jack Campbell to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Moore has played 123 career games between the two clubs, totaling 18 goals and 23 assists.
