hi,

as i am fairly new to hockey i for sure try to build my pc as good as i can but i would like to get some more input...

which 10 players would you expect seing autos of in a "good" hockey-PC...

thanks and i am really curious what everyone will say...

thanks herbert

Narrowing it down to just 10 is difficult - if I wanted to go to 10 autos that sum up my hockey watching experience and history, off the top of my head, I'd go with

Gretzky, Howe, Yzerman, Lemieux, Messier, Crosby
Orr
Roy, Brodeur, Plante

Well there are many great stars and many local small town Canada and US favorites but I think if you are a Canadian a nice Paul Henderson auto is good to have.

Getting a Plante auto is unrealistic. I'd probably change that to a Maurice Richard. Otherwise, I'd probably agree with your list.

10) Jacques Plante
9) Phil Esposito
8) Martin Brodeur
7) Patrick Roy
6) Steve Yzerman
5) Mark Messier
4) Mario Lemieux
3) Bobby Orr
2) Gordie Howe
1) Wayne Gretzky

My list

1 Gretzky
2 Orr
3 Howe
4 Rocket
5 Roy
6 Tretiak
7 Beliveau
8 Esposito
9 Bobby Hull
10 Lemieux

So many others especially Canadian collectors like Yzerman, Phil Esposito, Bobby Clarke, Larry Robinson, Mike Bossy, Glenn Hall, Tony-O, Bourque, Sakic.

I chose him for making the goalie mask popular, and I wanted to keep some vintage in there. Richard is a good choice, and as a Canuck fan, for my 10 auto PC, I would like take out the Messier and replace him with the Richard.

Was also thinking Lord Stanley, but again with 2 or 3 autos, didn't feel right to include a non player, but it is "his" trophy.

1. Gretzky
2. Orr
3. Howe
4. Messier
5. Hull
6. Rocket Richard
7. Beliveau
8. Messier
9. Phil Esposito
10. Tretiak/Henderson

Without looking through the above lists I would say

1 Wayne Gretzky
2 Gordie Howe
3 Rocket Richard
4 Bobby Orr
5 Patrick Roy
6 Mario Lemieux
7 Mark Messier
8 Steve Yzerman
9 Martin Brodeur
10 Mike Bossy

I have looked at the earlier posts and I wouldnt pick up a Crosby yet. While most of his stuff is high priced I believe it wont be able to keep up the prices at the rate he is signing things for UD.

Question...for all you picking Hull, are you referring to Bobby or Brett? I could see that one sort of sloping either way.

Both are available in abundance, but Bobby would be definite to me. Blackhawks or Jets, either way you can't go wrong, but a Brett auto from Phoenix (if there are any) is a definite waste, and Detroit pales in comparison to St. Louis or Dallas. Calgary... hard to say.

To me, not individual players, but you need something from each of these categories

- At least one of the hobby's trinity - Gretz, Howe and ORr

- An authentic or cut auto of one of the all-time greats like Richard, BoomBoom etc.

- Player depicted in their national colours (Paul Henderson or Tretiak Summit, Lemieux Canada Cup, Crosby world Juniors etc)

- A high-ranking prospect or star from the SPA auto'd rookies (Crosby, OV, Kovalchuk etc.)

- An autograph on an acetate or glass card (just because they look so damn cool)

- a Letter Marks auto

Beyond that, signature-on-GU swatch cards are becoming more attainable for the average collector, and I think I can speak for everyone who's ever been to an Expo that a Priority Signatures or two is a MUST.

Always go with a Proven player in todays product

5.....Lemieux
6.....Tretiak
7.....Bobby Hull
8.....Roy
9.....Messier
10....Any Deceased Hofers in recent product......Gump Worsley,Bernie Geoffrion,Red Horner etc

3.....Cyclone Taylor
4.....Jaques Plante
5......Tim Horton
6......King Clancy

It's all subjective, but for me any Auto's I get of these guys go straight to the PC

Gretzky, Orr, Howe, Richard, Bourque, Brodeur, Yzerman, Messier, Roy, Sakic.

I think anyone putting together the "Ultimate Hockey Auto Collection" should have a Ken Dryden in there... tough to find, but it wouldn't be the perfect collection without it.

Plante--Sawchuk---Edddie Shore--Turk Broda---Pelle Lindbergh--Gilbert Perreault--Wayne Gretzky---Maurice Richard---Bobby Orr-- Cyclone Taylor and Howie Morenz.
The Morenz I've had the pleasure to own 2.I do have several Drydens too.The rest are in the personal collection.
Great lists/wants everyone.
