I wasn't sure what to expect when I decided to pick up a box of this stuff. Since coming back to the hobby I have decided to do a couple of sets for each year, beginning with the lockout in 04-05. I was looking for a small set from 05-06 and Ice is 100 base + rookies and it looked to be a fit in the master plan.
Anyway, when I opened the first pack I was blown away. The cards are really, really nice! I love how they are textured and the design really grabbed me. I have never seen a hockey card like that before so I immediately took to the set.
From the box I managed to get 89/100 base cards with 4 doubles, leaving me at 89% completion for the base set, which I thought was pretty good. I am a big fan of being able to complete or nearly complete base sets from one box in most cases. Big sets, that's another story, but I am only planning to do one big set a year.
Anyway, onto the stuff people really care about:
Level 4 rookies /2,999:
David Gove
Mike Glumac
Petr Prucha
Maxime Talbot
Zenon Konopka
Well, I have heard of two of those guys at least...the others?
Frozen Fabrics Peter Forsberg (white)
Fresh Ice Maxime Talbot (photoshoot jersey black
)
Fresh Ice Jordan Leopold (glass, I think. black)
No auto card
. That makes 4 boxes of UD product so far since my return to the hobby and no auto. My luck seems bad when it comes to getting autos from UD. Maybe when I crack some ITG boxes my luck will change
.
As much as I like this set and the look of the base cards I really wasn't all that satisfied with the inserts for the price ($84US shipped). Jersey cards are not really that exciting to me, especially when they are one color.
At any rate, I don't think I will be chasing down the rookies from the set. As much as I like the acetate cards, the /99s are way out of my price range. But I am going to actively seek all the Calgary Flames rookies from the set.
I am also not going to bother with the jerseys as there are sooooo many different sub-sets here.
As a result, everything is available.
Thanks for looking.
