The National Hockey League Draft Drawing, a weighted system to determine the order of selection for the first 14 picks of the 2012 NHL Draft, will take place Tuesday, April 10, at 8 p.m. ET.

The League, in cooperation with TSN, will announce the results of the Draft Drawing live during a 30-minute program, produced and televised by TSN in Canada. The special presentation will also air in the U.S. on NBC Sports Network.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly will be in TSN's studio to reveal the order of selection for the top picks in the 2012 NHL Draft. The Draft Drawing involves clubs that do not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, or the clubs that have acquired the first-round drafting positions of those non-playoff clubs.

Per NHL rules, the club selected in the Draft Drawing may not move up more than four positions in the draft order. Thus, the only clubs with the opportunity to receive the first overall selection are the five teams with the lowest regular-season point totals, or the clubs that acquired an eligible club's first-round draft pick. No club will move down more than one position as a result of the Draft Drawing.

Based on team finish, the percentage chance of being selected in the Draft Drawing is:

30th place team - 25.0%

29th place team - 18.8%

28th place team - 14.2%

27th place team - 10.7%

26th place team - 8.1%

25th place team - 6.2%

24th place team - 4.7%

23rd place team - 3.6%

22nd place team - 2.7%

21st place team - 2.1%

20th place team - 1.5%

19th place team - 1.1%

18th place team - 0.8%

17th place team - 0.5%

The 2012 NHL Draft will take place at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The first round will take place on Friday, June 22 commencing at 7 p.m. ET and the subsequent rounds (two through seven) will begin at 10 a.m. ET Saturday, June 23.

The following is a summary of the impact on the order of selection since its introduction in 1995:

** Columbus obtained Florida's pick in a trade. The Blue Jackets selected LW Rick Nash first overall.

*** Pittsburgh obtained Florida's pick in a trade. The Penguins selected G Marc-Andre Fleury first overall.

I'm now going to have to go look who the Panthers actually got instead of Nash or MAF lol

D

Here's the complete order headed into Tuesday:

30. Columbus
29. Edmonton
28. Montreal
27. New York Islanders
26. Toronto
25. Anaheim
24. Minnesota
23. Carolina
22. Winnipeg
21. Tampa Bay
20. Washington (via. Colorado)
19. Buffalo
18. Dallas
17. Calgary

MAF The Florida Panthers trade the first pick (Marc-Andre Fleury) and 73rd pick (Daniel Carcillo) to the Pittsburgh Penguins for the third pick (Nathan Horton), the 55th pick (Stefan Meyer) and Mikael Samuelsson.

Nash No. 1 (Florida to Columbus): Florida trades this pick to Columbus for first-round pick (No. 3 overall, Jay Bouwmeester) and option to switch first-round picks in 2003 on June 22, 2002.

Somewhat related to the Nash pick trade - No. 82 (Vancouver to Buffalo via Florida and Atlanta): Vancouver trades this pick and 2001 second-round compensation pick (later traded) to Florida for Alex Auld on May 31, 2001. Florida trades this pick to Atlanta for Thrashers' promise not to select Jay Bouwmeester at No. 2 overall on June 22, 2002. Atlanta trades this pick and second round pick (No. 31 overall) Buffalo for Vyacheslav Kozlov and second-round pick (No. 41 overall, later traded) on June 22, 2002.

can you really promise not to take a player?? Is that not a bit fishy?

I be watching this draft

hoping for a few teams to move up and a few others to move down....

I hope that the Habs don't win the lottery.

I don't want them to have all the options on the table for them and over-think things, and end up picking Yakupov or Murray. I don't say that as disrespect to those two players, who will do great things for their respective teams in the future. But I want Grigorenko. If the lotto balls fall where they should...
1. Columbus - Yakupov
2. Edmonton - Murray

That leaves Grigorenko available to Montreal. They can finally get that big centre they've needed for so many years now. And bring along his coach, too.

Yakupov, IMO, has a lot of great tools and he would be a perfectly acceptable choice to me if the Habs do win that lotto. But the concussion concerns me, and "small but highly skilled" is something that the Habs already have tried to do so many times without altering the success of the team in the past two decades.

A lot of backroom deals get made prior to the draft. Always struck me as funny that the Panthers would not want the 1st overall pick, but if they had their sights set on a player they know they could select 3rd, it makes sense to flip the 1st pick and pick up some additional assets.

Here's an interesting stat for you - Less than 30 players from the 99 draft are still in the NHL. I had Daniel pretty high but I didn't have Henrik in my top 10 back then. This year could easily be as big a crapshoot as 99.

And this doesn't concern you?

Unfortunately for Grigorenko, opinion has shifted notably since then; now, he isn’t even a lock for second overall as scouts have questioned his commitment and work ethic. These comments from Red Line Report‘s December bulletin are harsher than most, but typical in their complaints about his game:

Scout: "As talented as Grigorenko is, he simply does not work hard AT ALL when he doesn’t have the puck, even at crucial moments in a game. One shift he had about four minutes left to go in a game his team was only losing by one goal perfectly illustrated the point. After attempting an individualistic play, Grigorenko lost the puck behind the net in the attacking zone, it squirted free to a defenseman about two feet to his right, and he just stood there watching as the defender skated the puck out of trouble without even a hint of trying to track him down or even put mild pressure on him. It would have been a real eye-opener for us – if we hadn’t been seeing the exact same thing from him for three years now."

A lot of scouts are questioning his desire and work ethic (not his talent). That's usually never good as it often leads to cases like Filatov and the like.

Who knows though, most of us clearly haven't watched enough to really make a judgement on him.

You know if the Leafs end up with a top pick they will only trade it for some 4th line player with 1 year till retirement

GO HABS GO

No offense, and I mean this seriously as I am genuinely curious, how much SEL did you watch? Considering both the Sedins came out of playing in Sweden and back then then internet, tv coverage, draft coverage, etc was A LOT less than it is now.

That single report has had quite an effect on the perceptions of some. Obviously he's got the tools and talent that it's been overlooked to the extent that he's still the #3 ranked player. I will be watching him on Wednesday for Game 4 of the Remparts/Mooseheads series to see how he performs under playoff pressure (probably Frk too, as he could end up being a late-first/early-second round pick) so that'll be something.

I think Dumba is just as, if not more likely to go #2 than Murray. Regardless though the Habs will have a chance to pick either Grigorenko or Forsberg at three should the lottery hold true.

Everyone had Daniel high back then. Don Cherry did a piece saying how stupid it wpuld bewasting a top 10 pick on a Bobsy twin (so you knew he was going to go high). Al Muir and beckett had him at number 1. My moms extended family is from outside Stockholm and 1 cousin covered the sel and hyped him big time. Aside from the televised intl tournaments a lot of it was based on word of mouth, but there was a lot of word of mouth about Daniel (and his brother to an extent) in 98. Remember, UD put autos of him and henrik in nhl product in 98 and released sel product with signed jersey cards to bank on the twins.

To be fair i had brendl at 1 going into the draft.
