I recently sold a card on Ebay for $76. My auctions state that any item over $60 REQUIRES $10 insurance (Expresspost) which is the actual cost. I make no money off this service. One moronic buyer sends me this note AFTER buying the card:

"I was wondering why Insurance is required instead of an option, as I do not feel, nor will I pay this as I would make the payment through paypal which is my insurance should I not recieve the item (ie) should it get lost in the mail. I have purchased many items on ebay and have never been forced to pay for insurance. This just seems like a cash grab, and I do not believe that potential buyers should be put in this position. It does not cost anymore to ship an item if is $10.00 or $96.00. I will make the payment once this charge is removed from my invoice, and if you will not remove it you can re-list the item. If you feel that you have to give me a negative comment that is you choice, but if so I will let it be known to ebay and through Beckett how you are trying to make extra money through an insurance scam. You knew that the card would sell for more than $60,00, so listing that insurance would have to be paid if the card sold for more than this is poor business and a rip-off."

I love these jacka$$es who say "I'm already insured if the card is lost in the mail" when they use Paypal. Sure, they're happy screwing the seller over. I'm so tired of these losers

ya, its not a scam, its insurance for the seller not the buyer. he at LEAST shouldve asked about before he bought the item. psh. hmm, would express shipping bypass customs fees? because wouldnt they charge duties and whatnot because of the price?

Slam him with the NPB... quote him too. He also knows full well that you can't NEG him...

People forget that these things are binding contracts...

I responded with this pretty reasonable message. I even surprised myself by how calm I was LOL

"The insurance costs me $10 extra to ship via Expresspost. It's not a cash grab. Just because YOU are protected through paypal doesn't mean I am as a seller. Sure, it's easy for you to just pay $3 shipping and if the card doesn't get there, you file for a refund and the seller gets screwed. In order for me to protect myself AND the buyer from postal loss or theft, I require the purchase of Expresspost which gives a tracking number for both parties to be able to see the status of the shipment. It was clearly noted in my auction that purchases that total $60 or more are required to use insurance. If you did not agree with those terms, you should not have bid. I am well within my rights to do this. You can try and report whatever it is you want to Ebay, Beckett or whomever else you choose to, they will tell you the same thing. If you refuse to pay for the item, I will have to file a non-paying bidder to get the fees refunded to me before relisting the card. You will be hit with a strike and if you're ok with that then so be it. I am secure with the fact that I've broken no rules whatsoever. I've been selling on Ebay for over 7 years and you are the first buyer to complain about this"

Please give us his eBay ID so we can block him. I have the exact same rules on my auctions and I don't need his attitude.

Thanks,
Kev

I think you should have listed the $10 charge as a charge for shipping, not for insurance. That may be where the confusion lie. Regardless, I never understood challenging the conditions of the auction *after* the auction is over.

The shipping charge isn't $10 if the item is under $60...

Doesn't matter. I list them as 3 "shipping" options in my auctions... regular mail, priority mail, and express mail. I state that all auctions ending at $50 or more will have to be sent with either priority or express (no exceptions). Therefore, I remove the "regular mail" option when I send the winning bidder an invoice.

Good point. I'll do the same from now on

I sold him an Ovechkin YG, and completely forgot to send it registerd. After I sent the item I look at his feedback, and there you have it. 2Apr-16Apr 6 different paypal claims won for items not received.

And Paypal paid him...........next step. I called him twice, no answer.

I have his address, and the local Police Department in his area. (Baltimore,MD)

I don't get mad, I get severly even! :)

DUCIMUS!

Shouldn't this cause a red flag for Paypal? They should have some kind of automated system that tells them to watch for these morons after a certain amount of chargebacks in a short period of time. It just goes to show you Ebay/Paypal cares very little about the seller and yet we pay for everything

Even though I rarely ever sell on Ebay, my blocked bidder list is getting pretty extensive. Thanks for the heads up.
