Have been watching the box costs on this drop (as costs normally do as a product ages) so I figured I'd treat myself to a birthday box and roll the dice...

Box cost was $250 when it was released on Dec 14, 2012 and I grabbed this one for $119, even at that... How do you think I did?

Card #1: Buy Back 2001-02 BAP Update Series Brendan Shanahan #PGS-30

Card #2: Rookie 2005-06 UD Artifacts Ryan Getzlaf #238

Card #3: Autograph 1980-81 Topps Anders Hedberg #73

Card #4: Great Moments Silver Hextall Scores a Goal 16/40

ouch...even at that price..this product could been better on your birthday!
I guess they figured the Getzlaf was the hit!

I think you did much better than those who paid $250 for their boxes. The Shanahan is sweet & has a production run of 25, so that is a very good card in my book. I guess those Auto's are very short printed, possibly 1/1 for that card, but I don't know if you can find a population report.

Well, those older BAP sets usually sell pretty well, I think the Shanny might be worth more than you think... You'll probably end up with 50%-75% of your money back if you sell everything (the Hextall should get you 25-30$ too). Compare that with most products, that's a decent return.

That is of course with the current price point. For 250$, that's a whole different story...

Agreed. The return is on par or even better than some other releases. If you had fun busting it, that's the main thing

don't worry about roi

you did fine

\the getzlaf and shanny are both good hits

happy birthday

just enjoy the collecting aspect of the hobby instead of how much can I sell it for!

Does the "rebranding" of these cards effect its value negatively or positively? BAP bought back an old card, slapped it into a card holder and inserted it into a higher end product. Will an original Shanahan sell for more of less than its counterpart? Has this encouraged anyone to break open the original cards from cases?

I like the idea of the set and enjoy most of the cards people are pulling. You pulled some great cards unfortunately in todays hobby boxes/packs are based on return value and not enjoyment. The hobby is big business and it takes a way a lot of the enjoyment.
