Drunk Pat Kane...again.

I am behind this 100%. Assuming that there is nothing to the choking incident, who gives a rats behind.

25 year old kid getting bombed during the offseason - really, how is this even a story.

With the emergence of social media, these situations tend to get way more attention than they should. Patrick Kane is a human being who has a job just like the rest of us. In his spare time, he can choose to do whatever he wants as long as he doesn't hurt anyone else. To me, this is a non-issue (I don't believe the choking incident for a second). The Blackhawks may want to make sure he isn't doing this in-season but that's pretty much the only thing they can say. Give the kid a break. He's just letting off some steam, something every one of us has done in our younger years...

If I were a Hawks fan Id be more concerned about the whole "black out" drunk thing. Thats not good.

Plus, I dont care how rich or young you are, being a douche still makes you a douche. But, being a douche is not a crime, so to each his own.

I'm more ticked that he's partying instead of being over in Helsinki helping the boys out who are playing with half a minor league roster right now. I'm hoping Backes and Oshie find it in their hearts to fly over and lend a hand, Justin Faulk & Jack Johnson can only carry this team so far.....

But if you know that Kane doesn't care what anyone else thinks and he marches to the beat of his own drum, then you shouldn't be surprised or ticked at his decision. Partying and getting some tail is priority #1 for him. It's just Pat being Pat. He's young, right? Plus he's an adult so he can do whatever he wants, and doesn't deserve any criticism because he's done some charity work (did he charge an appearance fee?) and showed up to some kid's birthday party. He'll have a ton more chances to represent Team USA. Won't be able to hang out at college bars and go to frat parties much longer.

Besides, if he was in Helsinki, he'd be partying it up there. Challenging all the Finns to a fight, like Getzlaf.

Honestly who cares. I love watching players on the ice and reading about them but I stick to the hockey magazines. I am sure Kane does a lot of good in the community with children and charity work. I could care less what he does on his own time while out partying. I am sure there are good and bad stories about most young rich athletes unfortunately people love to read and watch the news and reports on the negative. As long as he isn't drunk and being a punk to kids in public than I don't care what he does at a night club or frat party.

Wow dude, someone sure has a hate on for Patrick Kane. What did he ever do to you, did he light Luongo up in the playoffs or something......

Lol...maybe I do have a hate on for Kane, but not for that reason. Yeah, he did light up Luongo a few years back in the playoffs, but I have no problem with that. If I did, I'd have a hate on for a bunch of players.

I guess I just can't stand cocky punks with a lousy attitude. He's a good player, and may have a great attitude on the ice but I don't have a lot of respect for him as a person off the ice. I could probably show a bit more grace to Kane and be less harsh on him.

Something about him just doesn't mesh. If he does so much good in the community, then why does he beat up cab drivers over 20 cents? Now "rumours" of him getting blackout drunk and choking some girl. Even if it's untrue, I just don't like the "I don't give a damn about what you think" attitude. Life is bigger than just yourself. Some of these "charity" events are organized by the team/agent, not the player. Just because you're nice to kids, it doesn't mean you can be an a-hole to adults.

As for not caring what players do off the ice, I think that's too selective thinking for me. A star player is getting millions of dollars to not just play hockey, but to represent an organization, plus sponsors. Your "free/own" time is not like the rest of the general public. IMO, you can't just take the good and not the bad. Otherwise, if you don't care what happens off the ice, then who cares about the charity work players do off the ice. The tragedies to Rypien, Boogaard, and Belak all happened "off ice". For other sports, Tiger Woods, Kobe, Lebron (the Decision), etc.

Heatley had something tragic happen to him. He killed his best friend. He has a charity golf event every year in Dan Snyder's memory. All the years that he missed the playoffs, he represented Canada at the World Championships every time he was asked. Good can come of out bad/tragedy too.

I don't wish anything bad on Kane. I honestly hope that he matures into a responsible well-adjusted adult, instead of acting like a kid. He is turning 24 this year. Time to grow up a bit. Look across the room to your Captain, and there is someone that you can respect and emulate.

With great power, comes great responsibility.

Its the age of electronics, nothing is private and people love reading dirt. Seems like people get enjoyment from other peoples misery. I have read lots of books written from older players. There has always been heavy partying done by players but back in the older days stuff just wasn't reported like it is today. The Bruins (Espo-Orr) the Flyers (BS bullies), Habs etc all partied hard and I am sure wasn't always behaved but you just didn't hear stuff because there was only TV, radio and newspapers. Back than these outlets were a little more selective on what they reported.

Wow, and here I was thinking the articles were blowing this way out of proportion. Tiger needs a beer or two... :D

No doubt, newsflash to everyone who makes more money then the average joe, DO NOT HAVE A GOOD TIME AND ENJOY LIFE, PEOPLE WILL THINK YOU ARE A COCKY PUNK WITH A LOUSY ATTITUDE WHO DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ANYONE BUT YOURSELF!!!

Truly, what he does off the ice in his spare time is his right and his business. You want to judge him, go for it, that's your right too. But me, I'd be more concerned about the image my teams players portray on the ice on national TV in front of millions and the image they give the franchise, and there is one team out there who could really use Tiger Tigers advice on how to act like a respectable human being, and I think we all know who that is......... :D

I guess I could lighten up about it.

For me, it's not about a team. I know the Canucks have some d-bags on the team, and I don't turn a blind eye to it. I try to call it as it is. Lapierre, Burrows, and especially Kesler need to stop their immature antics on the ice and just play hard hockey. I'm a fan of the Canucks b/c their my hometown team, but I don't put my identity with them. I know if I have to dish it, I have to be able to take it too.

And it's not about the Hawks. A few times, I've pointed to Toews. For me, that's the #1 young player that I would build a franchise around. In 5 years, Kane has had 3 questionable incidents already that have made the news. Shirtless partying with John Madden, beating up the cabbie, and this one. How many for Toews? Zero.

As for having a good time, I'm all for it. It's just when having a good time comes at the expense of someone else's good time. If any of you guys were at that party and Kane did what he did to your girlfriend, sister, or friend, most of you guys would have intervened and some of you guys would have knocked him out.

Welcome to the 21st century of technology. It is different from how it was in the 70's, that's just how life is now. But just because bad behaviour wasn't reported, I don't think it should be excused. Just because people did it in the past, it doesn't mean we need to keep on doing it. There are things that we hope to improve as a society. People used to drink and drive all the time. Not anymore.

Now with technology today, a lot of the idiotic rioters after the SCFs in Vancouver have been busted. Yes, some guys got roasted in the public eye more than they deserve, but that's the world we live in now. More guys probably got away with rioting/looting in 1994.

You do something stupid and it gets plastered all over the internet and could be accessed...well...forever. I'm sure a couple of decades down the road there's going to be a few conversations that will start like this, "Mom, is that you?"

And with bad behaviour, I don't mean partying, drinking, having a good time, hitting on women, etc. It's when guys tear up hotel rooms, get in fights with others, damage property, make unwanted advances at women, etc. The person doing all the damage may think he's having a good time and having a good chuckle, but not the others around him.

Plus more is expected out of the players with their multi-million dollar contracts, which they weren't getting in the 70's. It's also more corporate now. You have sponsors now too who are paying athletes millions to represent them.

Now, as a public figure/celebrity/star athlete, you give up some of your personal rights. Take Tiger Woods. What he did was completely on his own time and had nothing to do with golf. But he lost millions from sponsors. I'm pretty sure most teams and corporations have "behaviour" clauses in their contracts, which they didn't have in the 70's. The NHL is trying to build a brand. It doesn't help when one of your young stars is creating a negative media stir.

Plus when exactly is it "spare time"? What about Radulov and Kostitsyn? Nashville sure cared what those 2 were going off the ice. In the 70's there were players that would come straight from the bar and to the rink. Some guys were drinking in between periods. That's not acceptable anymore.

The NFL has conduct policies for all their players, on and off the field, during the season, and off-season. You can do whatever you want in your spare time, but there could be consequences if you go too far. No charges were laid on Rothlisberger, but the NFL suspended him 6 games for allegedly sexually assaulting a 20 yr old girl.

I'd gladly talk to any of you guys about hockey over a few Innis & Gunns or Tripel Karmeliets. I do consider a topic like this hockey related. I don't take it personal too and I like hearing other view points and having a good discussion and hashing out an issue. I try to be open minded, but I know I have Onegoal to keep me in check if I get too lopsided. Always enjoy a good discussion with you. :D
