I happen to enjoy the razor Cut products, value driven or not. I have bought at least a case of every single release. I have garnered 12 Cut autos of US presidents, 9 Cut autos of Astronauts who flew to the moon. 99 different Hall of Famers including Muhammad Ali, Maurice Richard, Wilt Chamberlain, Sam Rice and Bulldog Turner (just to name one from each sport). More deceased celebrities than you can shake a stick at like Lucille Ball, Jimmy Stewart, Janet leigh, and such. To me as a Hobbyist, Razor has filled a void that no other single company has come close to touching. yes the lack of Photos make them less eye-appealing but Im not buying them for the pictures!

In summation I think famous Fabrics and razor both have their own appeal in that you are not laden with a bunch of useless cardboard cluttering boxes like a common break of Panini or UD. Its a one and done for the same price youd pay to break a box of either of those companies mid end product and I feel that I get the same reward vs risk from razor / famous fabrics as I do with those common releases!

IN MY OPINION, FOLKS...
I don't presume that my opinion is the correct one, simply mine; obviously there is a calling for these low-end cut auto products or there would be no sales of said products. I simply feel that ITG is going in a direction that dilutes their quality (which is a big component of what I feel they stand for). I cannot argue with the desire to have cuts of historical figures, but I can argue quality versus quantity. I choose things that have uniqueness and/or visual appeal. The Razor and FF branded products have neither of these qualities. IF I am collecting autos of actors, presidents, etc...those will be in document form, much like Bruce's Stanley auto....those things are FAR more significant than a chopped out misaligned cut glued to a piece of cardboard bearing a simpleton's "Congratulations" and a manufacturer's brand. I believe all the manufacturer's have grown extremely lazy with this on their inserts and a one-off pack SHOULD provide something FOR the cut, otherwise leave the damn document alone.
 
IMO... save the cut autos for someone who is deceased that can no longer sign autos for fans, card companies, etc... maybe of a player who doesn't sign at all (ie. Ken Dryden) at/for publicly accessable entities (shows, card companies, etc).

i thought that was the point of them to begin with.

the first cut auto i ever pulled was from 02/03 ITG Ultimate... Ching Johnson paper cuts 1/1... sold on ebay for a little over $1k. the second cut auto i ever pulled was from UM 9, a Babe Pratt, which sold for about $215. was it the difference in the player? or the fact that the cut sig market is much more flooded than it was 8 years ago? most likely the latter. and then i broke a bunch of Razor 2010 Sports Icons stuff earlier this year, ended up pulling a Scotty Bowman auto #/5 and an Alex Delvecchio, can't remember the serial #ing. both those guys are still alive and likely signing for UD or ITG. also pulled a Jim Rice 1/1... and a Joe DiMaggio that sold for a few hundred.

like i said, save the cuts for atheletes who can't/won't/don't sign.

I know I took a risk but I am quite happy with the card I received. Had I received a scrub... well, no different than a box of series one without a solid rookie... again, in my opinion :D

I do appreciate the varied points of view (and everyone has their right) and I don't think anyone has been overly negative... just stating their thoughts.

Pharms, I have a lot of whole uncut documents in my collection and I agree with you that some documents are better left alone. I have over 40 books signed. I find (or at least like to think) that the majority of items being used for cuts are not full documents but rather autographs from a scrapbook , book signing, cancelled checks or other IP obtained items that have been "certified" in some means by the company using them in the card. I know in the case of many of my razor cuts of astronauts , they are from 1st day cover stamped envelopes or in the wilt chamberlain examples , from a book signing . For whatever reason I dont mind if they "cut " those up.

Again, i was expressing my humble opinion as to why razor and Famous Fabrics appeal to me and how I personally justify the expenditure to a box purchase. There is no right or wrong answer .

I actually like Razor cuts and prefer the cheques... less chance of forgery. This product not so much...

My signature is so messy that both my mom and girlfriend have forged my signature lol..

If I didn't have them handle my finances I would have a billion late payments on bills and have claimed bankruptcy 5 times lol. Needless to say I am pretty careless with my money hahah.

Back to the topic.. Where is a checklist for this stuff??.

It was up on the famous fabrics website, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore.
 
Outside the HOF subset there's few others that are worthwhile. A TON of active players and a whole lotta repitition.

12 Lemieux
10 Gretzky/Howe
9 Yzerman/Messier
8 Crosby/Ovechkin
7 Orr

and they're all 1/1s? Puh-leeze! :rolleyes:

I realize they are highly collected players but that's overkill, not to mention they all sign enough cards already. Why wouldn't they just have each player appear once (twice at most)?
