Flickr Storage Limit - Effective January 8th

I received the email regarding Flickr's new policy that will become effective on January 8th, 2019.

Free users will now be capped at 1,000 photos or videos.

After January 8th, users will no longer be able to upload new content if they have surpassed this new limit.

Also, If you have more than 1,000 photos and videos on your account, your content will be automatically deleted to meet the new storage limit starting February 9th, 2019.

I went into my Flickr account today and deleted some photos I didn't need, so I am currently under the 1,000 photo/video limit (currently at 868). I guess I'll need to keep a watchful eye on that number moving forward. Sucks, but that's the way it goes. I kinda felt this coming when Flickr was purchased by SmugMug.

Will you be moving to something else or switching to the Pro version of Flickr? I believe it's $50 annually for unlimited storage.

Ya this sucks big time. I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I feel like I just recently switched over from photobucket and that was a pain. Might just suck it up and pay the $50. Probably easier then deleting stuff since I have all my traders and the majority of my PC stuff on there.

Thanks for the heads up on this Aaron, I haven't received an email about this yet. You might say that I embraced Flickr when I left Photobucket, I have over 6000 photos. I was really pushing to get my Iginla collection scanned and placed into Flickr. Guess I'll pay for a year and try to get Weebly set up for down the road.

I am not too concerned about having my entire collection visible to others but I like having it so when I am looking on COMC I have a quick reference for if I need a card or not.

I guess I could just google docs an Excel sheet.

No problem, guys. Just thought it would help some people out, or at least become aware of these new policy changes in 2019.

And as for the $50 per year for the Flickr's Pro version, they are offering 30% off the first year which is nice. Guess they needed to offer something after this news.

Oh yea that is a bummer. I really like Flickr so maybe I will to pay up as well. Never going back to Photobucket or something similar lol

Although it is unfortunate, I could live with spending $50 a year to catalog my entire collection...that is if I ever want to start over again

I personally don't have any other image hosting site suggestions at this time.

However, right now you can download your existing Flickr albums. So when you do find that new site, you can select the downloaded albums/images on your computer and do a mass upload on the new site. Shouldn't take too long, depending on how much images you currently have on Flickr.
