So I was watching the Sabres/Devils game Monday night which led to a conversation with resident Henrique fanatic lucscaps and I figured I'd toss up this discussion:

Who are the best Penalty Killers in the league? It seems like there are always some players who specialize in playing the PK and do a great job not only killing penalties, but developing chances while shorthanded.

The reason this came to mind is that it seems every time I watch a Devils game, Adam Henrique is generating chances on the PK.

So I will start by saying I think Henrique is one of the better ones, feel free to throw around your opinions and have a fun discussion :)

Backlund/Frolik combo. Those two have been given the hardest PK minutes, as well as the toughest 5v5 minutes all year and have still managed to be + players. Add to that Backlund holds the team scoring lead, as well as the Flames lead the league in short handed goals at 7 this year. Outside of most Flames fans, these two quietly get it done each and every night.

Not sure the best in the league but two that I have seen over the last few years are Detroit's Frans Nielsen/ Luke Glendening. Also, this year John Tavares on the Islanders is really good.

Brandon Sutter is a prety good Pker, and like mentioned above, backlund.frolik are killing it, always a threat to turn around and score

No surprise seeing Frolik mentioned, he and Kruger were insane together for the Hawks.

Toews & Hossa are a penalty killing pair and have to be up towards the top in the league, especially with how dangerous they are. They have combined for plenty of SHG's over the years.

I can't say it's something I pay attention to on other teams, but Tomas Plekanec and Paul Byron are solid penalty killers for the Habs.

The following came to my mind also from members mentioned above:

Toews/Hossa/Kruger
Marchand/Bergeron
Hagelin
Backlund

The Rangers brass came to mind as well, specifically I believe it was JT Miller/Michael Grabner that caught my eye last week when they were in Buffalo. Grabner's speed (like Hagelin's) makes him a threat

Perhaps I'm biased but I believe Jay Beagle is one of the premiere PK'ers in the league he has a faceoff win percentage of 58% which is critical on the PK, he along with Winnik (typically) or anyone he's paired with seems to create chances on the PK, and he also is great along the boards mucking it up for the opponents power play, also has great stick positioning. So he would definitely be my pick.

Beagle is a good choice.

I'd say Zach Hyman is starting to make a name for himself in that regard. Especially for a rookie.

The guy's leading the team and averaging 3 min of ice time per game on the PK! 3 min!

He has 3 short handed goals. He has a positive CF% Rel on the PK.

Oh and the Leafs PK this season:

2016-17 season: 8th

a HUGE step up from these past disasters:

2015-16 season: 13th
2014-15 season: 22nd
2013-14 season: 28th
2012-13 season: 2nd (lockout year, half a season)
2011-12 season: 28th
2010-11 season: 28th
2009-10 season: 30th
