General PayPal question

Okay. I have a US PayPal balance in the neighbourhood of $115

I want to hit a BIN on a card that is CANADIAN dollars. When I go to pay for it, will PayPal 'force' me to use my US balance (and basically broomstick me on the exchange), or will it allow for me to pay for the purchase in CDN funds on my credit card?

I think I can use my cc, but I just want to make sure by asking people far more knowledgeable than me in these matters.

I cannot say 100% but I believe it always gives you the "Change Funding Option". I honestly haven't bought anything on eBay for some time now but I know when I buy into breaks I have the option to change it.

Pretty sure the balance is always used first.

My PayPal automatically converts my US dollars to Canadian dollars, if the auction was in Canadian dollars. Hopefully, the same for you.

If you use ebay to pay for it, then you can use your credit card no questions.

If you opt to use Paypal, they take from the outstanding balance first. If you buy something over your Paypal balance, Paypal then gives you the option to use your bank account or credit card to pay for the remainder of it.

I know Paypal's exchange rate isn't the best, but you're only talking a dollar or 2 savings if you use your bank or CC.

Thanks for the answers guys. However, I am Canadian, so there wouldn't be an exchange on my cc. And, being an American, Curt would of course have an exchange to CDN from US if he only had a US balance.

Reason I got onto this was, when I went to make my HI donation, it wouldn't let me use CDN cc to pay in CDN $s. It would only use the PP balance, and they were using 1.4756 (which is absolutely outrageous) as the rate of exchange. I did make other arrangements with Jeremy.

This is what led to me wondering about eBay auctions in CDN $s.

I have noticed lately if I have any kind of balance it won't let me change my payment source to a CC. It never used to be that way.

If the Invoice is in CDN funds, you will have a choice to choose another funding source if your balance is in USD.

If you have both CDN and USD funds, it will pull from the CDN funds and pay the rest with your other funding source.
