how does the centering look to you guys, i know it's a little off, i'm curious how much it would affect a grade?

outside of that, the card is in pristine condition

The card is worth grading if you want it protected and authenticated. I would not anticipate more than a 7 on the final grade.

Obviously, the centering alone is off left/right.

The rest of the card is not "pristine" since there is an easily visible defect on the lower portion of of the righthand edge (looks like a crimp or bubble). Also, there are a few print spots in the white bordered area.

good eye on that right edge, didn't even see it..

would one agency be more lenient over beckett? or because it's beckett, is it the way to go?

In my opinion, Beckett has the best protection for the cards.

I don't think PSA would give you a higher grade since that bubble is a pretty major flaw. Also, you need a membership for PSA... unless you know somebody with a membership.

It looks to me as though it's cut a bit crooked, too. Does the white border not look a tad wider at the bottom right than up at the height of Mario's nose on the right?

yes, crooked.

if you are going to keep it for yourself, i woudln't bother grading, i like being able to hold the card in my hand.

if you are going to move it, PSA
if you want to get it well protected and keeping it, BGS

curious about this comment ?
The reason why he said this is because PSA graded cards will sometimes have better re-sale value than BGS graded cards. Part of this might be due to all the craze with PSA registry set builders going nutts for cards in those slabs.

But as to your question, imo get it graded regardless. I would say that you'd probably get a 7 with PSA or BGS. The other apparent issues - the bubble, and print spots alone, wouldn't lower the grade too much, but a low centering sub-grade would hurt the overall grade. A card of that calibre is always worth grading, though. It is a Lemieux rookie card - one of the best rookie cards of the past 30 years. I like PSA and BGS, so either one would be great. But if you don't have a PSA membership, go with BGS.

BTW, is it a Topps or OPC?

it is OPC too, better..

is it worth getting a psa membership, off the top of my head i'd have roughly half a dozen other cards i would get graded.. after that it'd be here and there..

Good luck, I hope you succeed in getting it graded. (Grading also ensures authenticity, which is important with the older rookies - Roy, Gretz., Lemieux).
