It's 12AM as I'm typing this, a perfect time to say goodbye. Just like my dad when he went out for a pack of smokes all those years ago. Are you there, daddy? It's me, Margaret..............

So anyways, I turned 50 a couple weeks ago. Amy took me out for dinner at Seasons In the Park, the highest point in all of Vancouver. This was the view from our table.........

That picture will be important a little later on, trust me........

ALSO, I have made friends with a raccoon and three of her babies. Three or four times a week they come to visit to hang out on the porch and to eat cat food hahahaaaa.....

I also have video of them eating right outta my hand, they're my best friends now.

So anyways anyways, here's the BIG SECRET to quitting the hobby...........

Buy a house.

In the most expensive real estate market in North America, when median income is factored in. That view from the restaurant, that doesn't come cheap, mister.

Amy crunched all the numbers and turns out we can afford it. And absolutely NOTHING ELSE, so that's it for me. Thankfully, I pretty much have everything I could ever want, so it ain't so bad.

So this is how it ends, the last picture show........... I picked this up at the card show in June (didn't go to the July show, because ya know.....)

Very awesome, and goes with my Vezina.......

And then there's the Keslers. This I'm pretty smugly proud of.............

Did you know there's a fourth card? Did you know that?? I did not, until I saw it on the eBay. It's still incoming, extra slowly from the USA........

And some low-numbered stuff...........

And then the Boesers. Sadly, my collection won't grow along with him and get into the hundreds before he gets traded three years from now to the Sharks for the rights to Jaromir Jagr. I think I managed to hit twenty, which ain't too bad eh?

I like this one, it's classy :D

This one's a staple, I guess. No choice, really..........

And my favorite, because it's cheap cardboard like from when I was a kid.........

But not TOO cheap :)

Moving along.......... Presidents Choice Bleu Blanc et Rouge blew me away and I had to have SOMETHING. I settled on the Decades set and I WILL finish it if at all possible...........

AND FINALLYYYYYYYYYY.............. wayyyyyy back in November of 2015, I bought a UD Artifacts Jean Beliveau Honoured Members relic card from someone on this very site...........

Last week, this arrived in the mail............

And in between were all of these............

And that's the complete set; 77 Honoured Members, 12 Honoured Hopefuls and 2 bonus 1/1 auto-cuts. The promo blurb for 18/19 Artifacts lists more Honoured Hopefuls, but............... sigh.

OK thanks for stopping by, folks! Have good lives, feed a raccoon if you can, and eat the rich & seize the means of production. Hopefully I'll see y'all again sometime.

house buying is scary at first, then it soaks you for every last dime you have

Hopefully we will see you around the boards still

Great S&T. Congrats on the new house. You won't be house poor (or rich- however, you look at it) forever :) Eventually (hopefully), you will come back.

I forsee many nights of Kraft Dinner in your future. There is nothing like being in YOUR HOUSE. My first sandwich in my own place was the best meal I ever ate.

As far as the hobby, there's always birthdays, holidays, anniversaries... Arbor Day....

Congrats!

Ed......say it isn't so!

Seriously, congrats ... life happens. Enjoy!

Was great dealing with you and don't be a stranger on HI.

Thanks for that great show and tell! All the best for you in your new house! Congratulations!!

I can totally understand when you hit that point. I'm sure you'll look at your pieces from time to time but reading your post, your coming from a place of fulfillment and you've accepted your choice.

Great ending and all the best with the new house

Enjoy

Been there.....done this. Totally unloaded my entire Gretzky collection to help put a down payment on my first house. Was totally worth it. You will be back......trust me. I have not returned to cards but I now hunt for things to hang on the wall.

I always enjoyed reading your posts, good luck with the house.
fyi on the east coast , you can afford to do both...

all the best!

As fun as this hobby is, a house in Vancouver is a way better investment. And there's lots to do around the house to maintain it.

Great looking cards, and I can now connect your H.I. name with your Twitter ( because of the Raccoons )

Congrats on the house and all the best.
