When Panini first came out with cards last year you would have thought they filled hobby boxes with horse manure. The thing is, 90 percent of that stuff (particularly Limited) was damn near the exact design as football. Contenders football rookies have consistently been the top rookies to get. Hockey people acted like their version was garbage. True they didn't SP them in the same way they do the football versions but nonetheless the concept and design was the same. They just SP'd all the stars and left it at that.
I imagine the guys at Panini put that stuff out thinking they'd sell like crazy because the football did and to their amazement all they heard was everyone whining like school girls with skinned knees.
Hockey guys have a card company owner in Dr. Price who actively participates and asks collectors what they'd like to see in future sets. I don't know how it could get any better than that.

That isn't a "shield" in my opinion. Nice card, yes. But not a shield as we have come to know them.
