Hello all,
The following cards are pickups from the month of June. As many are aware, I'm chasing very limited sets that are now 14 years old, so it is a daunting challenge to say the least. The aide I've received from the different forums and facebook group members in finding these cards has been superb, so thank you to everyone who has provided information leading to a purchase. June was not a haul-heavy month, cards I decide to buy can be few and far between and it all depends on what happens to become available during that time. In saying that, I hope you all enjoy the following post and stay tuned for the top three pick ups at the end of the post.
2005-06 Hot Prospects Materials Maxim Lapierre (2-colour)
I've been chipping away at this set whenever multicoloured versions become available at the right price. If there are any more out there I'd love to add more to the set.
2005-06 Powerplay Specialist Jersey Teemu Selanne (2-colour)
I love the design of this set, as is the case with many releases from the mid-2000s, the NHL shield swatch window is a great touch. This is the only 2-colour version of this card that I've seen. Its easy to forget how stacked the 2003-04 Avalanche were with Selanne AND Kariya joining the likes of Sakic, Forsberg, Foote, Blake, Hejduk etc. I am by no means putting the blame on Aebischer for the lack of playoff success that year but its an interesting though to what could have transpired if Patrick Roy had stuck it out a few more years.
2005-06 UD Series 2 Jersey Marty Turco (3-colour)
I'm happy to add the only 3-colour version of this card to the collection, upgrading it from a 2-colour piece. He may be forgotten by many newer NHL fans, but his impact can still be observed in the NHL today. Not too long ago, goaltenders weren't really great puck handlers and it was necessarily expected. Today its a requirement to help out your defencemen in order to be considered among the elite, and the grip of choice today is known as the "Turco grip".
2005-06 UD Series 2 Rookie Threads Jersey Kevin Dallman (3-colour)
Its been a while since adding any new pieces to this set, but I'm happy to upgrade my 2-colour Dallman to a rarely seen 3-colour.
2005-06 Hot Prospects Red Yann Danis (14-50) 3-colour Patch
A 3-colour patch, a goaltender and a parallel autographed rookie all in one card. What more could I ask for from a Yann Danis card? What makes this card more interesting is this was the man who Pierre Meguire mentioned, along with Theodore and Huet, when questioning the Canadiens draft choice of CAREY PRICE back in 2005. In his opinion the Canadiens were set in the goaltender position and they should have addressed other needs at the draft. To be fair, no one knows the future but the sound bite from the draft did not age well.

2005-06 Hot Prospects White Lee Stempniak (1-5) 3-colour Patch
I am always up to acquire new cards from this set, and being limited to 5, it makes them few and far between. This card was on my watchlist for a while but I never felt compelled to pull the trigger right away. Sadly it was sold and I forgot about it for a few weeks. As it turns out, a member of this forum ended up purchasing the card and gifted it to me. It just goes to show the great community and spirit these forums demonstrate to its members, thanks David!

#3. 2005-06 UD Artifacts Gold Spectrum Andrew Raycroft 1/1
While not the flashiest 1/1, its still a sharp card which could easily be confused for the base set version upon first glance. This is exactly why I love picking up these sort of rare parallels. This could have been buried in a shoebox full of commons and would never again see the light of day without the owner even knowing. But luckily for me, it now sits proudly in my collection, displayed as a 1 of 1.
#2. UD High Glossy /10
What more can I say about this set, this is likely my favourite set of all time. Each and every pick up has been a joy and these two are no different. The additions of Justin Williams and Derek Roy bring the set completion count to 178/487 or 36.5%.

#1. 2005-06 Hot Prospects Rainbow Ryan Hollweg (/999, /50, /5 and /1)
I had the Hollweg shield 1/1 on my radar for quite some time and inquired about it every now and then. The time appeared right for the forum member to part with it and we struck a deal for the shield. Upon retrieving the package from the mailbox and opening the package, I realized that I had not only received the shield, but he had included the entire rainbow! Big thanks to SkyFire47 for the generosity, its very much appreciated!
