Last time I ship to Canada ! Wth..

The majority of the sellers I talk to that use the GSP are not aware of the actual charges incurred by the buyer.

I found this to be true in a lot of dealings. I just bought a card two weeks ago and when I contacted him and told him I would buy his card if it did not have that $48.00 price tag for shipping attached. He said that is crazy so he relisted it with a $16.00 shipping and I bought it right away.

like other relationships, you need to form a very good one with the Postal worker.
I suggest to use an agent and not the actual PO.

Do people view this option as a negative?

If it's a card I really want and it's in scarce supply, I'll pay the $14 CDN shipping, or whatever to get it. I have yet to buy a single solitary card from someone using GSP. It's a colossal rip off for buyers, and has me automatically hitting the back button when I see it.

If it's an expensive or HTF card I don't mind the $15 shipping. However it do not make sense for me to buy cheaper vintage base cards at $15 shipping. I see a lot of items from the US with $35 shipping. I will never pay $35 or even more than $15. Nothing against the buyer as I get that it is probably cost but it just don't work for me. I wait until I find shipping $4 or less and they do pop up from US and Canada it just requires patience.

Ebay GSP is a terrible service. You pay twice for shipping and the last GSP delivery I had (graded Gretzky rookie) was left on my front step all day. Luckily it didn't get stolen. The couriers they use are terrible.

8oz or less from US to Canada is $11 on eBay w/ tracking

This is one thing that Ebay is good for- both domestic and international discounted shipping. As to the OPs point, I have long ago stopped selling/trading low value cards to Canada, etc. You know you will need to eat at least some of the shipping regardless to move the card and by the time you are done, it isn't worth the time/effort to package the card and ship.

There are ways with PayPal shipping and choosing documents and whatnot that will charge closer to $4, but I think technically it's mail fraud. I haven't gotten that desperate yet. But yes, it does suck shipping from US to Canada. It seems like only a few years ago that it was $5 or so. Usually technology makes things cheaper over time, but this seems to be the opposite.

While in the loosest term it is mail fraud, but some do it anyways.
Whether it is their PO counter person or whatever - the ACTUAL USPS rules are that cards are supposed to go as small packet period. Only machinable, non rigid items are allowed to go for the reduced fare.

Period - End of story, don't argue, because you obviously are not reading the guidelines and neither is the person accepting your package.

IT SUCKS BIG TIME BECAUSE IT HAS CRIPPLED THE ABILITY TO SEEL FROM THE USA.

Did some trades on another site. Brought the bubble mailer to post it. They said I needed to fill out a declaration form. I asked if that was new, because I have always sent cards this way. The guy said, "oh its just cards?" and only charged me a couple of bucks. The bubble mailer fit through their little plastic thing and that was that. Hand full of cards in a big toploader.

I have received from US and Canada, cards in PWE (just base cards) that are stuffed to the max. With a single stamp on it and it gets to me just fine.

I did the same thing you did, and earlier this year I told someone in one of the forums, I’ll just send you the card….. $15! And I’m pretty sure it was just a base card! I was happy to do it, but the shipping has gotten out of control!

Yeah, the courier that eBay uses is Intelcom and they'll leave it as your door. I live an apartment, and they left my last GSP package at my door (with a picture in my email) but it was stolen.

If you try to follow up with Intelcom, they jsut say that they can't do anything and tell you to follow up with "the merchant" for a refund. But I didn't file an eBay case since I know they'll just deduct it out of the seller's account, and they did nothing wrong. Just a rubbish service.

For full reference, I have used the GSP service several times, and same thing, left it in an apartment hallway and I was pretty apprehensive about using it in the future (as I assumed a theft incident was inevitable). For the shipping cost you're paying ($22 cdn+), there should be some kind of delivery confirmation.

From Winnipeg, to USA, in a #000 envelope, kept 100grams or under, my actual postage is $3.19 CAD plus GST. Then my cost of envelope let's say $0.50 CAD. I try to re-use used supplies. I charge $5.00 CAD for shipping and if I ship the cards in sleeves, multiples in a thick loader or team bag, I can usually ship 6 to 8 cards for this price.

As for receiving cards from USA seller, I switched to a service called Get It Shipped International. Actually shipping to them is about 1/3 to 1/4 shipping to Canada. $50 annual member dues. They send you pictures once a week of your received items. Then every 3-4 months, they package it all up and ship to you in Canada. You pay what appears to be actual shipping plus a nominal fee.

I will second Get It Shipped International. Great service and is very cheap considering how much money you save per item bought. Plus the owner Tim is a really great guy and super helpful if you ever have any issues.

You wouldn’t be nearly as mad if you had quoted him properly. People will pay for shipping if they want the item. You gotta know the costs.

I went through about an hour of discussion about what constitutes "paper", and the Canada Post customer service pointed out that it has to be paper or paper like in nature and consistency. For instance, can be written on, is malleable, etc. They agreed that a toploader with a card in it was malleable enough to not affect their machines.

So when they ask you if it is just paper, then yes, it is very paper-like.

I too have never once had them rip the pack open to call me on it. Not their job; they've asked the question, their work is done.
