Leaf Exclusive Nico Hischier

I can see the same offered to Matthews because he was drafted by the Leafs.

Some good thoughts, tiger.

It's obvious that Leaf is going after the high Draft picks, but they didn't get Matthews or Marner? Or Laine? Why not? Did they try and fail, or just choose to sit out one of the biggest rookie years?

For the Toronto boys, I can surmise it is because their agents manage the full spectrum of their career. Not just the "Show me the money" aspect. The reps for both Matthews and Marner are VERY specific about how the players' image. They even heavily control the photos available at autograph signings, etc. I imagine no amount of money Leaf brought to the table would have bought exclusivity with Matthews or Marner. The thought of Matthews being depicted in an airbrushed jersey without the TML logo likely shut down talks immediately. These are the good agents. They are concerned that the players are financially rewarded, but also that their profile as an NHL player is respectfully depicted.

Wonderful. Way to encourage an idiot like that.

Can't wait until Leaf offers up a truckload of money to the "Cash me ou'side, how bow dat" twit.

It's plausible. Our collecting society has a funny way of remembering, commemorating and paying for weird things...coming from the guy who willingly bought Joe Millionaire and Parker Lewis' autographs when Americana released them.

Everybody remember the great Balloon Boy Hoax of 2009? I own a piece of his balloon in this Allen & Ginter card:

Sold out in 45 seconds. Seems like Leaf knows a thing or two about pop culture.

They're already being flipped for hundreds too, and some listings popped up within minutes of Leaf selling out. This whole spectacle has "quick buck" written all over it.

Very curious to see if these hold any real long-term value. My gut says no.

If got Leaf (and trading cards) high profile exposure on the home page of ESPN. Leaf paid this dimwit for 200 autographs and it got them immeasurable exposure that the handful of bucks they chucked at this "Big Baller" would never have bought otherwise.

Brian Gray for the win.
