McDavid Future Watch Auction

Warning signs everywhere for the sports card market, but a lot of people seem to not care as we can see on EBAY and the auction houses. People with money target something, buy everything available at current rates, falsely inflate the prices and spark a feeding frenzy, then dump for big profit and move on to the next thing. See GameStop. The bubble will burst, it always does, enjoy it while you can and get your share of the profits while you can.

In fairness Gamestop came and went in like two weeks. This sports card boom has been going on for over a year now. Hockey was only getting a bit of a trickle down effect leading up to the PSA 10 Gretzky sale and after that its been getting much hotter. But even what we're seeing now is a drop in the ocean compared to the other big sports.

As for McDavid himself the guy is currently on a points pace we haven't seen since Lemieux in the 90s. If he somehow manages to pull off a 100pt season in 56 games... Yikes.

Agreed, although this has been going for some time, I personally do not think this is sustainable for the hobby long term and is likely going to do more harm than good. A lot of serious collectors are being driven out of this hobby at the current prices and I don't see a lot of this new money staying for the long haul.

As a matter of personal investing tradition, I am going to hold onto all of my cards until just that time where the bottom falls out and I live with the regret of not acting when I should have.

All joking aside, good to see some of you doing well with your cards.

My McDavid didn't fit in a ultra pro one touch either so I got it graded and it came back a 9.5. They seemed to be a bit more generous with McDavid FWAs grading back then. I've seen quite a few I would grade lower base on the flaws on the scans posted on eBay.

I graded my sole McDavid FWA for the same reason, it was too long for a top loader. Got 9s across the board for a solid 9. Still very happy.

This is a very Saskatchewan approach. =)
