My Top 10 for 2023

I'm going to approach my Top 10 for 2023 differently this year. Instead of making one post I will be revealing one card per day.

Today's card has special meaning for me. it reminds me of why I go to sports card shows, with the chance discovery of a set you've never seen before. Also, it highlights my interest in soccer (especially World Cup), and set building. This card is part of a 15 card set that I managed to complete, with all but two of them in graded slabs. Those remaining two cards will be submitted to Tag Grading during the Spring Expo in Edmonton next May.

My #9 card reminds me of the friendships we make as we navigate through our hobby activities. I've known Curt (GabbyGuy) for many, many years. Over that time we've had many conversations and done several trades. We both enjoy collecting cards of vintage players, which has made trading an enjoyable experience. Curt contacts me when he acquires Iginla cards, and here is the latest example.

Thanks Jeremy, I'm very happy with the list I've created, although the numbers beyond the top 3 could be shifted up or down.

No hints :laugh: you'll have to wait until day 10 to see them all.
 
Today's card comes in at #8, but realistically any of the cards #4-10 could be shuffled around into a new position. Beyond it's visual appeal this card is significant to me because it shows the benefit of making connections as we build our collecting network. When I first started collecting it was me in front of the computer screen bidding on eBay auctions. Now I have a presence here, on IG, Meta, X, and in a variety of online groups and auction sites.

Jason (JTBeezer34 on HI, @jtbeezer_and_pens_fan on IG) contacted me on IG to let me know that a friend of his had pulled some nice Iginla cards that he was looking to sell. That friend wasn't on IG, but was a member on HI. Ron (ChuckNorrisFearsSid)was a real pleasure to deal with, and along with this card I also bought the Acetate FW card. Thanks Jason & Ron, I love adding cards to my pc in this way.

Card #7 makes an appearance today, and it also has a connection to a HI member.

Rob aka TanguayFan sent me a message asking if I needed this card. It had been on my eBay watch list for some time, but I wasn't willing to go as high as the listing price. The store listing the card was in his area, and Rob said he could present my offer to the store owner. Well as you can see, he did a great job and the card was headed my way in short order.

Thanks for your help Rob, it's always exciting to add such a great 4 color patch card to my pc! :beer:

Coming in at #6 is this NHL Glory Autographs card with a manufactured shield from 2020/21 The Cup. it is numbered 04/10, and I think I saw 4 or 5 of these shared online before I was able to pull this one in. Cards from The Cup are always a high priority for me from year to year. This was an eBay purchase, one of only 3 cards that came from eBay in my Top 10 this year.
