Need advice: eBay seller issues.

Thanks for the comment guys and gals.

I'm not a collector with mega high standards and if simple communication is consider high standards, then the hobby is really going down the drain.

I think I will just keep the card and try to re-sell it later in the season. I am thinking of at least posting neutral FB to let everyone know this seller ignores emails and ships cards in hinged cases. I don't think it would be fair to give this guy positve FB and allow another collector to experience what I have experienced.

I guess a seller with eBay feedback >1000 should just not be trusted with quality shipping practices. And this is my biggest lesson learned.

Cavet emptor....

The key to this statement is "requested".....if you sent emails to the seller PRIOR to the auction ending asking about his shipping practices and he did not reply, then you most definately should not have bid at all!!!

You wanted a specific service, if you were not able to verify that the seller did/did not offer that prior to the auction ending and you bid anyway, then that responsibility falls directly on you!! At that point, it was merely a request...and as we all know, we don't always get everything we "request".

So are you saying that paying $6 with shipping insurance, I should not EXPECT QUALITY shipping? If you paid that and the guy ships it in a white envelope, is that right? Would you leave the seller a positive FB because he offered you a refund?

Hey Heidi,
Another way to look at this is:

What if your "I" 7/10 lettermark came up on eBay? You emailed the seller and inquired about shipping, card's condition, etc. He never replies.

The auction ends, you win it at a reasonable price, and you pay for shipping and insurance and ask the seller to contact you if he has any problems. You get no reply.

The card arrives 2 weeks later in a white envelope...damaged....
You email the seller and ask, what's up, and the seller offer you a refund.

How would you feel? The one card you really wanted is now damaged and irreplaceable.
Do you accept the damaged card into your PC and give the seller positive FB? Neutral FB, or Negative FB?

Sure, it's not a 1/1...but every patch is unique...every Patch AU is unique.

Step into reality.....the seller did indeed ship the card in a responsible manner...the only problem is that it was not the manner YOU wanted....

$6 s/h for domestic mail w/insurance is completely FAIR!!!! The insurance alone was at least $2.30 of that, plus the cost of postage, delivery confirmation, supplies, etc....

Rich...you are a mega nice guy and I enjoy talking the hobby with ya and trading....but I gotta say, you are acting like a spoiled child here....the seller has offered a FULL refund, but that's not good enough because it is not how YOU want it handled...YOU want additional $$$ knocked off of the price...so sorry, but that is not an option the seller is offering...but because YOU are not interested in his honest attempt to resolve the situation, you are gonna ding him with a neutral fb????? Why? He has offered full compensation...what more can he do??? Nothing personal here...but please tell us your ebay id so I can block ya....I most definately don't need this hassle from any buyer for ANY amount of money!

Heidi,
my ebay ID is kovyheater. My ID on anything hockey realted is kovyheater....i used the same ID for transparency....

Sorry if my problem has skewed my reputation with you. I am just trying to be honest and find resolution to an issue that has been bothering me for the past few days.

If my opinion stated above make you think I am dishonest or unfair, then please block me from bidding in your auctions.

Thanks for the input though.

Oh, and I am not arguing the price of shipping, just the method of shipping and the lack of communication. I would pay $20 for shipping if this guy would send it the right wy...excuse me the way I wanted him to. But again, I never had the chance to work it out.

Again, comparing apples to oranges...but I will oblige....

If I emailed the seller and he never responded and I received the damaged card...then it is MY RESPONSIBILITY for seeing the auction through after knowing that I was unable to confirm his shipping methods....being that the "I" is a 1/1, I'd chalk it up to being "my own fault", scan it and be happy as a clam that I finished the BTL set!!! But that's me!! :D

Your card is not a 1/1, and it was not shipped in a PWE, so there is no comparisson!

Your reputation is perfectly in tact with me Rich! As I said, you are a heck of a guy!!!

I just think that you are evaluating this whole scenario more with your heart than your mind....we'd all love every ebay transaction to go without a hitch, but it just is not possible...hiccups happen from time to time, and unfortunately you got a small case of the hiccups! Be thankful that the seller has offered fair and reasonable compensation...most sellers out there would just tell ya "better luck next time". If the damage is bothering you that much, then just return the card, get your money back...no harm/no foul, and just go after the next mega nice patch you see! As stated, this is not a 1/1, so while it may be unique, there will be others available!

:)

I can only assume through this that you have still not yet looked into the insurance that you bought and paid for on this card - there is really no need to look any further in this instance to make you whole...you paid for insurnace, now you have an opportunity to use it.

I have no idea as to exactly how much is covered but you item was damaged in trasit which is expicitly covered. If I were you I would turn in a claim, leave positive feedback, keep the card, look for another one, and move on.

And file a false claim......

The item was not damaged as a result of shipment.....

No way would USPS cover that!

If it was not damaged prior to being mailed and reasonable effort was taken to protect it in transit, then I don't see how it would be a fraudulent claim.

Here is some of the information you would need to submit the claim though...

3. Proof of Damage and/or Estimate of Repair: For damage, loss, or partial loss of contents, the addressee must present the
following:
(a) The container, wrapping, packaging, and any contents that were received;
(b) The original mailing receipt, or other proof of mailing specified in paragraph 1, above;
(c) Evidence of value; and
(d) Estimate of repair (if applicable).
NOTE: Do not return the damaged parcel(s) to the mailer to file the claim. Either the addressee or the mailer may file claims for
damage or loss of contents.

Well, the seller claims the card has sharp corners. The seller believes the damaged did occur in transit and openly admits the hinged case caused the damage.

How long does a claim with the USPS take to get any money?

This is big reason why USPS insurance is a waste of money, IMO....does anyone ever really file a claim?

OMG- just get the refund and be done with it already! this is such a useless thread, its almost hilarious. USPS wont offer insurance claims for DUMBNESS. just move on and hope and pray this thread gets closed so no one else will lose the time for reading it. someone get me a drink!
