New In The Game Survey

I went with 1968. It was the most significant change in the history of the NHL. It gave players a better chance to make the big leagues, yet we didn't have a watered down league. Rivalries were born. Almost every goalie started to where masks (Gump and Bower excluded), and for me it gave the Canadiens more teams to beat up on:D

Thanks collectors, this survey is both fun and informative.

I voted for 1972. The Summit Series started the process that made the NHL a truly international league and opened North American eyes to talented European players. As well, the WHA was formed, which lead to increased player salaries, overtime play, and eventually NHL hockey in Edmonton, Quebec, and Winnipeg. Plus, Jean Beliveau and Gordie Howe were elected to the Hall of Fame. Fairly interesting year I'd say.

Definately going with 1942, can't even IMAGINE the sick memorabilia that would be in there.

Dr. Price,
This is why I continue to buy your products........who else has even attempted to listen to the collectors like you did!....Cheers

$10 says there would be more redemptions than actual cards.

if I vote for 1972 is there any chance of this photo appearing on a card? :)

in all seriousness I'd like to see a 2002 olympic set, those were pretty exciting games & I'm too young to remember much before the flames cup in 89.

Thanks to everyone, for those who have not yet voted, please do.

Question- Let's say somehow 2002 made it to the top and won, would you only produce cards of the players you have under contract or would you try to sign the other players as well? AKA what would be the chance of me seeing some Iginla cards in that set if it won?

I voted for 1972, can't resist a Summit Series product :)

I'm with you there... if 1972 wins, can't WAIT to see what Brian and the ITG gang puts together... here's my dream version:

Summit Series:
Series Autos - all of the (still alive) Canucks, and of course as many of the Russians as possible! I'd LOVE to see some Sinden and other not-normal-signers' autos... and as much as others may not like it, an Alan Eagleson auto would be super cool since he was instrumental in putting the whole thing together!
Cut Autos - Dryden, John Ferguson, Bill White, Vsevolod Bobrov & Valeri Kharlamov (and others obviously)
Dual Autos - Harry Sinden & Alan Eagleson (wish either Ferguson or Bobrov were still alive for a very cool coaches dual, although I think Tasarov still is?); Frank & Pete Mahovlich; Espo & Henderson; Tretiak & Tony O; Pete Mahovlich & the Russian cop
Not-So-Silent Observers - some guys didn't get to play, like Bobby Orr, Marcel Dionne, Gilbert Perreault, Rick Martin, etc. Russian team, Alexander Pashkov. But they were there to support.

WHA Starting Up:
Real Rookie Autos - Wayne Gretzky (I wish!), Mark Messier (I wish! I know... on UD exclusive :(), Rejean Houle, Ulf Nilsson, Anders Hedberg, Richard Brodeur (:D), Mark Howe, Robbie Ftorek, Nick Fotiu, Mark Napier, Ken Linseman, Rick Ley, Kent Nilsson, etc.
The "I Jumped Ship" Autos - Bobby Hull, Frank Mahovlich, Bernie Parent, Gerry Cheevers, Dave Keon, John McKenzie, Ted Green, Pat Stapleton, etc.
The "Nickname" Autos - Gordie "Mr. Hockey" Howe, Bobby "Golden Jet" Hull, Frank "The Big M" Mahovlich, Gerry "Cheesy" Cheevers, "Terrible" Ted Green, "King" Richard Brodeur, Mark "Moose" Messier (yes, I KNOW... ), Derek "Turk" Sanderson, Ken "Rat" Linseman, etc.
Dual Autos - Bobby Hull / Gordie Howe (for obvious reasons); Richard Brodeur / John Garrett (2 Nords goalie greats who became the Canucks tandem for the 1982 Cup run); Ulf & Kent Nilsson (just cuz it'd be cool);
Triple Autos - Howe, Howe & Howe (for obvious reasons); Henderson, Mahovlich, Keon (3 Leafs greats, now in WHA);

How about a "I played in the Summit Series AND the WHA!" series? Players would include Henderson, Frank Mahovlich, Pat Stapleton.

Okay... I'm dreaming... but it'd STILL be cool.

Cut Autos - Dryden, John Ferguson, Bill White, Vsevolod Bobrov & Valeri Kharlamov (and others obviously)

A Kharlamov cut autograph would be INSANE, even a nice Tretiak/Dryden dual would be a dream card. I really hope 1972 wins because the potential for a deep and historic product is definitely there.

I like some of your ideas, but there are a few sticking points on your thoughts...

- While it would be cool to have Eagleson in a product, it would be a bad move on ITG's part. Doing that would irreparably damage the relationship they have with many of their clients. The players want nothing to do with him, so it will be a long time before the Eagle lands in a card set.

- Bill White is still alive... so no need for a cut there! Dryden on the other hand...

- Howe, Gretzky and Messier weren't WHA players in 1972, so that kind of makes their presence redundant for a product focused on that year.

- The Real Rookie Autos idea is neat, but none of those players except Richard Brodeur were WHA rookies in 1972-73... they either had NHL experience, were still playing in the NHL, or had not made their debut yet.

- Pat Stapleton did not join the WHA until 1973-74.

- Oh, and Garrett was not with the Canucks for their Cup run in 1981-82.

Fair comment. Still be cool to see him sign at some point in the future.

Bill White is still alive...

Oops... meant Gary Bergman.

Yea, kinda got carried away on those ones...

:| How embarassing... :dizzy:

See... this is why I shouldn't get my hopes up when I write crap when I'm tired... I get carried away and write things that are off topic! ;)
