ok shoot me if you wish for this not being hockey cards, but wanted to see if anyone has heard of this "company' - Canadian Chewing Gum Co.

I spotted a couple game-used bat cards (I'm tempted to use the term loosely) on eBay of Babe Ruth, attributed to this company.

Someway, somehow, the authenticity doesn't seem real to me. Custom cards that have pieces of a frickin' piece of Ruth bat? oy.

Anyone seen any "cards" in hockey from these guys?

No different than the matted clump of bung hair that's selling the memorabilia jewelry.

a little OT, but did anyoe ever get the story on this guy? Seems to have made a hundred "1 of 1" crosby jerseys, the swatch sseems too big to have been swiped from a licensed card.

it's another fake company, and i think they're a fake grading company too.

I've seen more of their auctions lately, including a Ruth/Mantle dual. they're now making what they call "replica" cards, basically fessing up that their swatches aren't game used. Still illegal, 100%.

Bruce, can we get a dedicated sticky thread to finding all these bogus companies, listing them, and then getting the word out to the leagues and PAs so we can put a stop to them already?

This guy bugs me a lot. He had a blog for a short while last year and was really promoting his cards. They are nice looking cards that he has designed...but clearly has no interest in things like copyright. I'm sure he didn't get permission from anyone to copy a design template or use a photo.

It's frustrating because people who are unaware will look at these and think they are authentic.

Wasted talent looking to make a quick buck.

Anyone good at making custom cards?

We should have a name and shame set (a bit like the Iraqi playing cards given to the US forces) with images and crimes.

We even have a title for the set

Following on from tools of the game- "Tools of the Hobby"

If that's a real game used bat by Babe Ruth, why the hell is he selling for $25? Bunch of crap on the market these days... makes me want to start up the Insider's Trading Card Company and create cards I KNOW are real. Think I'd get a license? ;)

A lot of venom in these posts. When did it become guilty until proven innocent?

In any case, you asked if any one has herd of them. I've herd of them.

Someone else mentioned that there was a blog. I agree that its gone now. Can it still be found in google cache?

As for price, I'm not a baseball expert. I know that I can buy these pieces;
http://cgi.ebay.com/2003-DONRUSS-EL...ZViewItemQQptZUS_Baseball?hash=item20aeb68968
http://cgi.ebay.com/2005-ABSOLUTE-B...ZViewItemQQptZUS_Baseball?hash=item20aeb68a49
http://cgi.ebay.com/05-DONRUSS-GREA...ZViewItemQQptZUS_Baseball?hash=item20aeb685c3
for less than $100. But that's aftermarket baseball cards. what about pre-market?

I also have no idea of the size. How big are the pieces in the custom card? They look positively tiny to me. How big are the ones on the cards from Donruss and the other companies that I linked. Could you make more than 6 of those small pieces from one bigger piece? No idea, but if you could, that looks about right in terms of price.

If you check his this guys FB - cyberwow, you'll see that he buys quite a bit of stuff from The-zone! Who seems to specialize in selling tiny pieces of memoribilia. If you look at The-zone! neutral and negative FB, most of them are complaints on how small the pieces are, which fits with the tiny pieces on these cards. Is the-zone! legit? Does anyone know about them?

Cyberwow's most recent purcahses are for "Original New york Stadium Wood" from uncertified sellers. In all fairness the guy he bought it from they sell a lot of baseball stadium stuff. Is it possible he just used this stuff on the cards instead of real bat pieces?

As for the card's COA, I'm curious as which wording you prefer?
"Congratulations! You have received a Piece of History Game-Used Bat trading card from XXXX. On the front of this card is a (sic) authentic piece of bat used by BABE RUTH. The authenticity of this piece of memorabilia is guaranteed authentic by XXXX"

"Congratulations. You have received a Babe Ruth Game-Used Babseball card. On the Front of this card is a piece of memorabilia that has been certified to us as having been used in an official Major league baseball game."

I replaced company names with 'XXXX'. One of these comes from the Canadian Chewing company. the other comes from a major sports mem. card company. I'll leave it to you to figure out which is which. If you need a hint, it comes from the back of the only Babe Ruth bat card produced in 2007 and is listed in Beckett. .

I know that there are a lot of people here who are upset about the use of name and design, but the original poster was talking about mem. authenticity. Is it really a Babe ruth bat piece?

Has anyone contacted the seller? Can anyone prove or disprove the authenticity?

Cheers,
reoddai

I remember seeing those posts on Badwax as well. I had heard that he purchases the items to be put into the cards and then divides it up into however many cards as he sees fit.

I'm not questioning the authenticity of the memorabilia used. I guess I'm looking more at someone using the design (or name) of another company (be it now or in the past) as well as a photo that he may or may not have the rights to use. I guess that does drift from what the OP was asking.

As for the authenticity of the item, I guess hearing it from a licensed company as opposed to someone making cards and selling them on ebay makes me more comfortable in knowing that it is legit. Reputation in the industry can go a long way.
