And Blair Betts' qualifications as someone who might score a goal in OT are.... be as condescending as you want, you know just as well as I do that it makes no sense putting a guy with 27 goals in over 300 career NHL games out for regular shifts in OT.
It does if your only worry is actually trying to get out of OT without being scored on, as opposed to actually putting the puck in the net. The Rangers don't have the talent to score, so the hope is that they can get to the shootout and let the win be decided by the goaltenders: in other words, hope that Lundy stops everything fired at him, and the other goalie screws up just enough so Zherdev or Dubi or whoever else can net the shootout winner.
I wouldn't call Cally and Duby Jeff Carter types just yet, though.
Callahan and Dubinsky are a year or two away from a Jeff Carter type year barring some unforeseen problems.
So you think both Callahan and Dubinsky are ready to be 35-40 goal scorers as well as defensive players and PK/SH goal scorers within 2 years? That's an awfully bold prediction, and I will gladly put money on that.
Having watched them every day for the last 2 years, Id say they are definetly on the verge of leading this team. They already play PP and PK, Callahan is basically Chris Drury in a younger, more energized body. He also has a nose for the net a little more than Drury does.
Maybe a rangers fan cn correct me, but dont those 2 lead the team in hits right now too?
I am pretty excited to watch the next game too, just to see if I can notice a difference in their play....All they need is to win one game and Ill be sold on Tortorella![]()
I'm not sure about Duby but Cally definitely leads the team in hits and if I had to guess dubinsky would be right behind him
You mean Dustin Brown, Brent Seabrook, Zach Parise, Ryan Getzlaf, Brent Burns, Ryan Kesler, Mike Richards or Corey Perry?
The funny thing is, the Rangers couldn't have picked a worse pick that round... they really couldn't. Jessiman is the only player from the first round in the 03 draft to have never played a game.
Jessiman was a typical case of going high in the draft because of size
Prior to the lockout, it was a good draft strategy.
A few comments to add.
1) Drury was a good leader on the Sabres. I can't explain why he has lost it with the Rangers, maybe his guaranteed huge contract has went to his head. Maybe he has lost faith in his team. I personally think the latter, and a new coach should help this.
2) Redden is a bum.
3) Gomez is an A talent, but he is an A playmaker and needs an A+ scorer with him to be effective. He had that in NJ with Elias. He could have had it last season with the Rangers if he had any chemstry at all with Jagr. Nobody on the team currently fits the role of Gomez' go to guy. Instead of moving Gomez, maybe they should try to bring in a scorer to put on his wing.
4) Zherdev will crumble under Tortorella. He won't like Tortorella calling him out after a bad game, and will lose all confidence. Its a shame, just when the kid was actually becoming what we all know he can be.
5) Whether the Rangers needed a new coach or not (I think they do), Tortorella is not hte right answer. He is a bad coach in my opinion. They should have looked to Ted Nolan, he would have been probably the best guy for the Rangers in their current situation.
