Hi everyone,

A recent PWCC listing has caught my eye and I would like some feedback on what the forum members think. The card in question is a 2005-06 Hot Prospects Red Parallel Ovechkin RC 24/50 (4-colour).

What caused me to hesitate putting a bid on this eye catching piece was the fact that it was indeed 4-colour. Every single example of this card I had seen to date was at maximum 3-colours. Also the jersey I've seen used on other copies of this card seems to be a retro capitals jersey with the red-blue-white combination rather than the black-blue-white-copper combo used at the time. This 3 colour combo appears to only have been used for the red parallel /50, and not the regular rookie /199 or the white parallel /5. I also understand this rookie does not feature game worn material but photo shoot worn. I don't currently own a copy of his /199 version but I do own an Ultimate rookie of his with a similar patch. The copper shown in the card being sold seems to be a very different copper than my game-worn copper patch. Are photo shoot jerseys still of similar quality to their game worn counterparts?

Due to these questions I amassed photos of every Ovechkin red /50 that I could find so everyone could see what the others looked like. The archive I created holds 13 of 50, including the card in question. If any one here owns a copy of his /199 RC which shows the copper colour please check to see if this material is consistent with your own. Thanks for the input in advance, really curious to hear what everyone thinks.

I wouldn't trust anything from PWCC at this point, they've sold a lot of fakes. They had a Getzlaf Cup Rookie that I used to own. When I owned it the card had a plain white swatch. When they sold it the card had a 4 colour best swatch. That's just one of a lot of examples. I know there have been many more cases where they are selling fake patches and claim ignorance when inquired.

Patch/cooper of that card you are interested in looks to clean to be real from my point of view. Have a bad feeling about this one. All my rookie patches look different in respect to this patch material...would stay away here....

P.s maybe through in a low ball offer in hope getting them cheap?

Most of those look like they could be from a Russian jersey, the one in question is not, obviously. I wouldn't touch anything from these consignors, IMO. Too many fraudsters dump their fake crap with them, and as long as they get their fees on the sale, I doubt they care if it's fake, or not. Others seem to think that places like PWCC are the best. I feel otherwise, but that's just my opinion.
