Fans,
I've been thinking about this for awhile, and I personally love the idea, so I figured I'd throw it to the community. Let me preface. I am a HUGE fan of increasing the speed of the game. I believe a fast and talented NHL is a better NHL for everybody. Penalties such as "puck over glass" (delay of game) are among my favorites. I also love the "no change" rule for the offending team when they ice the puck. To me, when I watch, I want speed, speed, speed. I am in full support of penalizing play-stopping behaviors that disrupt heavy offensive pressure, with the obvious exception for a goaltender freezing the puck.
While the icing rule in my book is a plus, I think it can be enhanced. Have you ever seen games where a team is dog-tired, ices the puck after a 2 minute shift, and then can't change? That team then wins the faceoff and immediately ices the puck again! :foottap:
Proposed Rule Change: Any team icing the puck twice within a 20 second timespan shall incur a two minute minor penalty for delay of game.
I realize there are many people who in fact hate the puck over glass rule, and I'd imagine this would rub them the wrong way. But there have to be some others out there who are much like me and want more speed and more scoring in the NHL.
What say the community? Can I reach 20% support? 30%? Dare I say...50%?
