I mostly collect hockey cards, but am I big baseball fan, so in order to get my fix I am starting a collection of autographed bats of my favorite all time players.... I figure this way the collection will remain small since I will only have 1 bat from each player in the collection...

anyway.... on to my question....

I have been browsing bats on ebay and I am wondering if you would consider an autographed bat to be worth more or less depending on the particular bat it is signed on..... I notice that a lot of the signed bats on ebay have been signed on the "Rawlings Big Stick" bats.... I know these are less expensive bats and that is why that are the ones that were used to obtain the signature.... does this greatly affect the value of the item???

thanks for your help

Hey there.

A bit late given the date you posted but warrants an answer.
Yes the bat manufacturer is a big deal for signatures. Obviously it goes without saying that a game used bat is the key centre piece for most autograph collectors.
Aside from that, getting a bat the player uses is also key.
Last but not least, where the bat is signed also matters. Autographed bats a big deal and people are very picky.. however like Hockey jerseys, bats are not cheap to come by.. so the prices are usually a bit higher.

Beware of a lot of counterfeit auto bats that are always around. Buy from a reputable dealer is always advisable.

Case in point, I was lucky enough to witness Joey Votto bring in one of his game bats to be signed and he signed a generic bat. In the same day I got to see what a collector paid for a game issued and used bat versus the generic bat. The pricing difference was astronomical.

Cheers and I hope this helps.
