Hey guys, odd question here. There's a card on eBay I'm significantly interested in, but there's an odd "problem"; it's autographed. It's worth significantly more to me without the signature, I was wondering if anyone had any good ways to remove an autograph from a delicate hockey card.

Any help is appreciated.

shouldnt be too hard if its a sticker auto, if hard signed im not sure really, but what would you even wanna do that? you will destroy the card trying remove it perhaps most like.

I assume its an in person signed card. You can try a cotton balk with lighter fluid but you may mess up the gloss.

If it is a glossy card this is how to remove it:

Go to any local arts and crafts type store and buy a dry-erase marker. Literally draw/color over the signature or area you would like to remove.

Then wipe away the area where you colored with the dry-erase marker with a piece of felt or other soft material. This should pick up and wipe clean both markers that were used.

This has worked phenomenally for me with 8x10 and 16x20s. Best of luck!

Depends mostly on the paper quality of the card. The methods mentioned here for cards with a UV coating should work. I have also heard lighter fluid, acetone and rubbing alcohol.

If it's an older card, I think you'd be far more likely to damage the card than able to lift the marker or pen. It's most likely soaked into the low-grade paper, and you'd be removing paper to get it off.

Depends on the marker/ pen too... if it was a fine tipped beast, it may leave an indent impression on the card, even after the ink is gone.

M35Richter's method sounds like it might work on that, since it is a chrome card and the ink has probably not been absorbed.

I have cleaned up cards with surface soiling using panty hose and rubbing very lightly with small circular motions, like a very fine scrubber. Never tried to remove an auto, though.

For Chrome type cards (maybe other glossies) a micro-fibre cloth would probably work too. It is the thing that is sold to clean cell phone/tablet touchscreens.

PS: I've never tried to remove an auto. Well except that time I tore a mini-auto out of an Allen & Ginter frame, but that doesn't count. :D

This is going to sound stupid, but on those foil type cards, Easy Off works well. Spray it on and wipe it off IMMEDIATELY. I've done this with two of my Jose Cruz PC cards and it worked well with no damage and full removal of the ink. Test it on similar cards first.
