On Tuesday, Dec. 16 the Buffalo Sabres announced that they had traded forward Luke Adam to the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward Jerry D’Amigo. D’Amigo, who had been playing with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (Columbus’s top minor league affiliaite), will join the Sabres’ AHL affiliate Rochester Americans.

D’Amigo, 23, was in his first season with the Blue Jackets organization, playing 28 games with Springfield so far this season and tallying three goals and four assists for seven points. He also has 26 penalty minutes and a minus-4 rating this season.
Prior to being acquired by the Blue Jackets in a trade in July of 2014, D’Amigo had spent four seasons in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, where he was drafted 158th overall in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL draft. Between 2010 and 2014, he played 240 games with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, tallying 57 goals and 61 assists for 118 points, while also accruing 119 penalty minutes and a plus-26 rating. He also played 22 games with the Maple Leafs last season, scoring one goal and adding two assists for three points while going a minus-1 and not committing any penalties.
Luke Adam, 24, was drafted by the Sabres 44th overall in the second round of the 2008 NHL draft. Spending most of his professional career in the American Hockey League, Adam has played 87 NHL games with the Sabres since 2010, scoring 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 total points, to go along with 32 penalty minutes and a minus-11 rating. His best stint with the Sabres came during the 2011-2012 season when he played 52 games with the team, scoring 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points, while adding 14 penalty minutes and a minus-6 rating.
Aside with his time with the Sabres, Luke Adam has also played 237 games in the American Hockey League since being drafted by the Sabres. He made his initial professional debut in the 2010 American Hockey League Playoffs with the Portland Pirates (the Sabres AHL affiliate at the time), where he tallied two assists in three games. He then joined the Pirates full time during the 2010-2011season, playing in 57 games with the team and compiling 29 goals and 33 assists for 62 points, while amassing 46 penalty minutes and a plus-18 rating.
After that season, the Sabres became re-affiliated with the Rochester Americans, where he has since played 180 games. In those 180 games, Adam has 56 goals and 63 assists for 119 points, while also adding 147 penalty minutes and a minus-26 rating. In 26 games with the Amerks this season, he has eight goals and 12 assists for 20 total points while accruing 24 penalty minutes and a minus-13 rating. He led the Amerks in goals during the 2013-2014 season with 29, and ranked second on the team in points with 49. He has also twice been named an American Hockey League All-Star. He will now join the Springfield Falcons of the AHL, taking Jerry D’Amigo’s spot on the team’s roster.
“We feel that this was a good deal that gave both teams a player they were looking for,” said Sabres General Manager Tim Murray after announcing the trade. “Jerry brings a tremendous work ethic to our organization and we know he’ll have an immediate impact with the Amerks. Luke has been a steady force for our clubs since he was drafted in 2008 and we wish him luck as he joins the Blue Jackets’ organization.”
