What's he thinking? Out with a herniated disc in his back but he can snowblow, this may not go over too well with the fans or the Avalanche organization. That being said, I hope it's not too serious.

The Colorado Avalanche will be without captain Joe Sakic for longer than they originally expected.

The team announced Wednesday, that Sakic will miss approximately three months after undergoing surgery on Tuesday night to repair three broken fingers and tendon damage.

Sakic, who was slated to miss up to six weeks as he recovered from his herniated disc in his back, injured his hand at home in an incident that involved a snow blower.

"Joe's surgery was performed by a hand specialist," said Avalanche Team Doctor Andy Parker. "The procedure went well and he's expected to make a full recovery."

Sakic has only played in 15 games this season, recording two goals and 10 assists.

The 14-13-1 Avalanche are currently in ninth place in the Western Conference.

Regardless of this new injury, I think he was going to be out significantly longer than expected anyway. They were hoping to avoid surgery and have him back in six weeks - which probably means ten weeks. I wouldn't berate him too much as it was pretty doubtful he was going to be able to come back and contribute too much this season anyway.

I thought it was just family that had the "If I can just grab that thing out of there really quick...." obsession. Snowblowers, lawn mowers, augers....

Why would you stick your hand in a snowblower. Say it aint so Joe! Really stupid injury on a very respected player.

Of course it was an accident. Its not like Joe has a history of stupid behaviour....lets cut the guy some slack. I was reading another story of a guy who cut his entire hand off with his snowblower today. It happens more than we would like to believe this time of year..
Herniated disc.....now this.....he's no doubt thinking he's been cursed.
Get well soon Joe.......

Okay I could see if he was shoveling snow that it might be an issue with his back, but snow blowing? those things are self propeled now, how would that hurt his back?

I would have thought he'd let his two 9 yr old twins pick up a couple of shovels OR with millions of dollars PAY someone to do it especially if he's got a bad back!

Unbelievable... Accidents happen. Everyone has brain farts sometimes. He's just lucky he's still got a hand!

Are you guys serious? Joe Sakic has been so clean over the years that he deserves a mulligan on this one. Compared to some of the stupid things other players do and say, this guy has been a complete saint. Not to mention what he's done for the Colorado organization, I'm willing to bet the owners are taking it in stride.

WTF!?! You've got to be kidding, I thought this was a joke when I first heard it. Why didn't he call me? I would have cleared his drive for free.

I gotta say he's lucky to still have his hand.

That said, freak accident, it could have happened to anyone. Remember Dan Boyles skate falling and slicing his wrist open?

You'll find no greater fan than me, and even I'm going to say that was a colossally stupid thing to do - HOFer or no. This might be the capper on his career, and an ignominious one at that.

I'm not sure why somebody being wealthy entitles them to being lazy and helpless? If he wanted to clear snow, good for him. Its unfortunate an accident occurred, but it happens to everybody. Props for doing his own work around the house.

I'm not critiquing that, Greg. I'm questioning the incredibly poor judgement that allowed a live, useful hand to go anywhere near the operating bits of a running snowblower.

Hey Steve - not getting on your case about that, just other comments I have perused (and not just in this thread) have left me scratching my head lately. But yeah, if I see deadly machinery grinding away, you can bet my hands and feet, etc. aren't going anywhere near it! Joe gets the big dummah award for that one unfortunately!

Well THAT blows......*guffaw*

Or maybe more to the point, that DOESN'T blow? *snicker*

Thank you....I'll be here all week....don't forget to tip your server...
