Scotch Tape wtf

At this point do people put Scotch tape on cases because they are from another dimension? My fingers can’t take more of this. 0 eBay stars and a big red negative should be the new standard.

Yeah it's annoying how some people use tape, especially scotch tape on cases. I always have a razor blade handy though because I use it quite often for my own packaging and cutting of tape, but I use masking tape. It's not that big of a deal really... however, the blade cutting into the plastic itself sometimes feels like what running nails down a chalk board sounds like ! I don't even like thinking about it haha
 
I hate it too.

The only top loaders I will send out with scotch tape are ones that I’ve received with it on there and usually it’s only on very low end sales.

A properly placed decoy and team bag will ensure the card(s) do not move in transit.
 
I insert the card into the team bag with decoys - with the top of the toploader upside down into the team bag. Tape the bottom of the team bag to seal in card. When it's received, you can still open the team bag, pull the toploader out with no tape residue anywhere to be found
 
Yeah I agree scotch tape is a pain to remove and leaves residue. That's why I always use painters tape.

I think the OP meant the cases you put multiple un-sleeved cards in. It can be hard to even get a razor blade in between just to cut the tape and not the outside of the case.

With toploaders I also have a stack of low-end inserts to throw in... that sucker ain't moving but I still put masking/painters tape on it.
 
I try to avoid sending out really bad top loaders/holders but at the end of the day I'm not selling top loaders, I'm selling cards. As long as the card arrives safe, that's all that matters to me. Same when I buy. I'm under no assumption that I'm going to receive a brand new unscratched and untaped case/top loader. That's why I have my own brand new ones to put them in. Though I do hate when people wrap cards with so much tape and cardboard that you worry about damaging the card.
 
I personally don't see a problem as long as the card/item itself arrives in the condition as described. I always end up grabbing a fresh soft sleeve/toploader for a PC card, then simply re-using the soft sleeve/toploader I received.

I use surgical tape on toploaders when sending cards these days.

EDIT: If you wanna clean 'em up - adhesive tape remover is your friend. The smell is a bonus.
 
I don’t care. As long as the thing is taped closed, it’s fine. I’m not buying the case.
 
Some are really particular on how the card is received right down to the tape used to seal the topload . If I'm receiving a card I could care less about what tape is used, as long as the package shows care in protecting the card while in transit.

What boils me is people just slapping a package together.... no decoys, no soft sleeve or the dreaded PWE

Could not agree more. Use duct tape, I don't care. If my card arrives safely I couldn't care less what tape the seller used.
 
Id rather have scotch tape than no tape. I dont care the least bit about changing to a new toploader. But would prefer painters or electrical tape.
 
I could care less. I put all my PC items into new cases and as long as the card arrives safe, who cares? Like people stated, I'm buying the card, not the case.

I used scotch tape a while ago on some low end items. Like I mean $0.99 sales. I had old top loaders and sent the cards in them. I mean, who really cares?

I get a msg from one buyer with the most threatening tone, telling me i'm scum, and that he should leave me negative feedback and spread this info all over every social media avenue. Really? All over a $0.99 card that was shipped safely but in an old top loader?

To each their own I guess, but it makes me laugh. If I sell a card that is valued, sure, I usually send in new cases and even one touches if I can, and I use painters tape.

It's overall getting out of hand it seems. Here are some messages I've gotten in the past 6 months..

1) Can you guarantee that if I send the card for grading it will be a 10?
2) Can I return the card if it isn't a 10?
3) Can you take close up pics of the front and back of each corner, and zoom in on all edges? (Card is worth $5 tops)
4) Make sure card is shipped in a top loader, team bag, and 2 pieces of stiff cardboard or negative feedback will be left
5) and my newest fav.... I see that your card sold for $150 and is obviously a shill or you'll never get paid for it, so I'll give you $50 right now and you'll be dumb not to take it.

Removing the ability to give negative feedback to a buyer is the problem.

Bottom line, it's a stupid hobby where people like us are buying/trading pieces of cardboard with pictures of grown men on them. Everyone needs to lighten up!
 
For me it just doesn’t need to happen is my annoyance with it. I would never complain to the seller and would never ding them for it.

I think with options of painters tape or no tape are all, we just don’t have to waste cases.

Again, I reuse mailers, top loaders and stuff to cut down on cost and waste. So I do send out top loaders that have tape/marker/stickers on them but I try not to where possible.
 
I would rather be able reuse a top loader for sales and send over a nice clean one than just chucking out one with gross tape on it.
Calgary is a pretty green city and we are teaching the kids around our place not to be wasteful.
I don’t really give a crap if I’m labeled as cheap for trying to reuse them where I can.
I would think setting an example and putting in the effort to lower the carbon footprint and keeping waste down is a bit more classy than strutting out of the hobby shop with a bunch of new clear plastic that can’t be recycled. (At least here in Calgary).

See, I agree with the recycling and lowering the footprint, and thats why I use the ones that came to me with tape on it in the first place. So I'm the one recycling. I won't put tape on a new clean top loader, but as long as 1 of the parties are recycling then it should satisfy everyone.

As SNobles stated, I also used to recycle every single one of my bubble mailers and send them out with every transaction. Again, I had to revert to buying new ones as I was getting threatened on ebay transactions with negative feedback for using "Old" bubble mailers.

Bottom line from this thread? You can't please everyone.
 
I ship cards in CS1's, problem solved. Can't stand top loaders personally. Card does not move in a CS1 and there is a reason PSA asks for cards submitted in them.
