And according to capgeek.com, they now have 15 players under contract and $113,410 in cap space.
Something must be in the works with Huet, the Bowman's must have a plan on how to move his money off the books. I am not sure on the legalities, but can he retire from the NHL, and play on a team in Europe next season?
If they don't find a way to move Huet's salary, then one of the big dogs are on their way out, Seabrook, Campbell, Hossa, Kane, or Keith. There is no way Toews is going anywhere, but I think it's obvious someone has to go that has a big contract. It's not looking like Campbell will be going anywhere as much as I hope he can be moved, no one is taking on Hossa's contract, I can't imagine they will let Keith go, so I have a bad feeling Kane or Seabrook may have to be moved. If it is one of those two, I hope they keep Seabrook and find a new home for Kane. Not a popular choice, but for me I would rather keep Seabrook around.
They will more than likely trade Sharp. Campbell and Huet are not movable (unless you are looking for a team to get up to the cap minimum) and you aren't about to trade Kane/Hossa/Keith/Toews/Seabrook. That leaves Sharp as your most likely candidate along with possibly Bolland. What do they both make in the $3 mill a year range?
I still think it's easier to replace a scorer than a d-man or a key to your team.
I'm still hoping that Sharp can stayand I don't think Bowman will trade Bolland. Sharp is @ $3.9 mil for 2 more yrs and Bolland is @ $3.375 mil for 4 more yrs.
I can understand not wanting to trade Sharp. He seems to always get the big goals (at least against the Wings..lol) If that is the case though I still think re-signing Hjalm was the right thing to do. He is a pretty good d-man and it is a good price for him. Hoard the d-men and reload the forwards!
