Talk about hitting a guy on the ground. Lucic had him down and just teed off as hard as he could 4-5 times. Pretty sure that's against "the code."

Welcome to the club.

Milan Lucic Haters Club - founded November 13, 2008, by a bunch of really choked Habs fans. :)

I could care less about Lucic. I'm actually glad he whooped Komisarek. He deserved it.

That said, punching a guy 5-6 times in the head while he's down is just wrong. It breaks the code so to speak. If someone serves him a beating, don't act like he didn't deserve it though.

Video of the Incident

Fast forward to about 1:16 to see the whole thing.

Lucic seems to get extra psyched up when he's playing at home and has the crowd behind him. Part of me believes he didn't subconciously know what he was doing.

thats touchy. Lucic was pissed for whatever reason. you can maybe see an extra punch or two when a guy goes down, but that many i dont know, that looked a little much. If these were inter conference teams, Lucic would be a marked man.

A higher profile player than Lucic has done more questionable things in fights and people still seem to think everyone should love him... the "code" only seems to apply to guys who are strictly enforcers.

1-2 punches as he's going down is fine.

repeatedly waling on him is a no-no regardless of who you are.

As far as I'm concerned the unwritten rule of a hockey fight: no eye gouging, no head butting, no low blows and no hitting a guy while he's down or hurt.

Is there a history from the minors maybe? You can tell that Brown wasn't expecting to get hit once he was on his can. I'm not sure what the point was of Lucic teeing off on his helmet though.

Okay guys, I honestly think that you are making too much of this. Lucic was going to the net hard and let up a little early to keep from a confrontation. Brown decided that he didn't care what Lucic did and went after him. Brown started it and slipped up during the fight...Lucic was obviously upset and gave a few punches while Brown was down. This is not a big deal and I think we should just let it go.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Brown did get the instigator in the fight. I don't think the 'code' applies when a guy starts hitting you before you are prepared to drop the gloves. This wasn't your average fight where both combatants give the OK for a fight to begin.

I don't care for either guy, but I think 1 punch by Lucic should have been enough. He went a little overboard, or nuts.

Did Lucic break his hand in the fight? He left with the popular "Upper body injury." While in the box he kept working his jaw and he showed his hand to Savard, it had a nice cut on it.

Wait a minute, Brown may have got the instigator here as he did start the fight/ However, he onyl threw one punch which didnt exactly connect, and then fell and Lucic then commences to punching him in the head five times while hes laying on the ice. Thats an issue, and I think later that game someone shoulda tuned Lucic up for it.

And dont get me wrong, I love the way Lucic plays, hes like a poor mans AO, but things liek that are a by product of the insitgator rules. If he knew someone liek Dave Schultz woudl come out and beat his face in, I dont htink he woulda done somethign like that. Look at the Rick Tocchet montage I posted up earlier. Tocchet and neely beat each other down, but when Neeley said he was done, tocchet patted him ont he back and they skated away. Thats respect, and it isnt there anymore.

cowardly move. however, none of the punches looked like they had any affect. nonetheless, im sure if brown wasn't in that position, lucic wouldn't have had the balls to throw that aggressively.

a few words that come to mind......goon...coward....idiot..."tough guy"
ive never seen him fight one of the few real "tough" guys yet
carillo or laraque...you know one of the heavywieghts
anyone have one of those clips id love to see it
next hell be laying a beating on martin st louis or brian gionta
man i wish i coulda seen this chump fight probert or the grim reaper
but then again to my knowledge he hasnt fought any of the current tough guys
hes no cam neely ladies and gentlemen

Greg, you do realize Mike Brown isn't exactly Kyle Wellwood right? He's got the highest PIM per game ratio in the NHL this year, and is purposefully put out there to be a physical presence on the ice. If you see the video, you'll clearly see Brown somehow performs the superhuman feat of removing his gloves and nearly popping Lucic in the face pre-emptively in one fell swoop. That being said, I don't know many matured adults, let alone 20 year olds that would let that behavior go unpunished, especially when you have the adrenaline and emotions of 20,000 people behind you.

So he mugged a bully...it doesn't mean he's going to go beat on grandma next. I think suggesting that St. Louis is the next step after Brown is a little premature :)

Lucic's upper body injury may be his cut hand, which was clearly visible as he sat in the penalty box. Punching a helmet repeatedly has a way of slicing up the digits.

Questioanable? yes.

But out of line? not at all.

Brown bum rushed Lucic out of nowhere and got a couple shots in before lucic even dropped the gloves.

Cheapshots are worse than punching the cheapshotter while hes down. Lucic was definetly in line for doing that. He did nothing to entice a fight, he didnt even go to the net as hard as I was initially expecting.

Lucic is the last player in the world to hit a guy from behind, or slash to the face, or sucker punch. He is a stand up player, and yes the B's have not had a player like him since Cam Neely. Im not even a B's fan, but I have watched enough of their games, and been to enough in person, to know Lucic's style.

I have more of an issue with Brown starting to bogus fight in the first place, and starting it by throwing a couple punches at an unsuspecting player.

it's a contact sport. things happen. film at 11.

Here's the real code... You want to hit me, I'm going to hit you more.
