Taylor Hall , Explain the hype..

As an Oiler fan , it looks like this team may have a shot at #1 pick. Now i know who Taylor Hall is , but i have only watched his play during the World Juniors. Can anyone tell me if he is the "real deal" or is he just the best available prospect this year? His play at the WJHC was good , but it didnt wow me. Is he head and shoulders above the rest in his class? Just curious , as i know there are more people who have seen him play day in and day out. He doesnt seem to carry the aura of a #1 pick ie ( tavares) or has he just come on in the last year or so. Anyway , just curious how others see this , including Oil fans.....
 
Great question, I haven't seen much of him either. Is the hype starting because he is that good, or just because he is the likely number one pick?
 
It's starting because he is that good!!! I'm from Windsor but am not biased because he plays here. Just watching him play is awesome. He's not Crosby or Tavares but he is most definitely deserving of the hype
 
from what i noticed, he has great speed and acceleration and a great shot, he is not tavares, but with his speed, and shot, he could be just as good as tavares or better in point production.

I wouldn't say 'worst' but you do have a point....lots of kids are able to dominate at 18/19/20 simply due to an earlier physical maturity and then have trouble taking that next step once they reach the NHL. But I think it's safe to say that a draft-eligible 17/18 year-old that can perform well with the best 19 year-olds in the world has very good potential to be a solid NHLer.
 
I am a season ticket holder of the Spitfires. He is going to be very good. He is fast, with a good shot, great awareness, already plays both ends of the rink..but my knock on him is he needs to mature mentally...
 
I've seen him play against the local OHL team (Soo Greyhounds) and he impressed me, he's fast and has great hands.

He's still small because he's young, once he puts on a bit of muscle I think he'll be even better.

May I add that these are former Rangers (although Harvey started as a star)


Of course all #1 picks are deserving of the hype, but you could argue that this may be one of the weaker draft years since the lockout. That being said, its anyones guess...

The Thornton reference is a good example, it actually took him a few years to take off (and then come back to earth since then). But most top 3 picks have the raw goods, its up to them if theyre going to compete at the big league level.
 
I have seen Hall play several times over the last few seasons against the Gens and many times on the tube. He's a very fast skater, has great puck sense, excellent two way player, top notch passer, superb puck handling skills and like Tavares, the knowledge to be in the right place to score. The Spitfire fans have been very lucky to watch this kid play over the last few years because he is exciting and can change the tide of any game.

1st overall in 2010 without a doubt. Edmonton, Boston or Carolina will be very pleased. I thought Tavares would be first ( as many had ) several years ago. Several who know me can confirm I also tagged Taylor Hall as the next 1st overall. If he's not, I'll be surprised. If Edmonton can put players like Gagne and Hall together, their future is bright. Similar to Toews and Kane in Chicago.

He definitely has the talent, but he needs to use his teammates a bit better. Playing with elite talent and against elite talent at the WJHC, he was exposed a little bit when he would try a toe drag or a dangle and cough the puck up. I assume this works in the OHL, but it got a little bit old after a while.

He needs to break a few bad habits, but he definitely has the talent. His awareness could use some work, which is the one thing that sets him a few steps below Tavares, Crosby, etc. They have an innate sense of what is going on around them, and Hall seems to be a bit behind in that sense.
