Team Canada Master Collection

fWIW, the price point I have heard is $3000 per, and from multiple sources.

The numbers of packs is concerning - 500. Gretzky master was 100 packs. Woods was 200. Those sold out. Jordan was 250, and 50-75 ended up getting blown out.

500? This might be heavily discounted quickly.
 
This is really a big difference, these could end up like the Dodgers or Montana collections, eventually discounted down to a grand or less.

Figured comparison numbers and currents prices for other master editions might come in handy.

Gretzky 150(last completed sale of a complete set with mystery pack opened went for 1000)
Woods 200(these are at 2750)
NBA Legends 200(no recent completed sales, although an empty box went for 50)
Montana 250(these are at 595)
Ali 250(these are at 1600)
Dodgers 250(these are at 700)
Second Jordan 250(these are at 2500)
Lakers 300(complete one of these up for 650 or BO on ebay)
Jordan 500(these are at 3499)

I think you could get by with breaking up the jersey set and make it 37 spots @ $90.

I'm not much of a group break guy, but I'd be pretty salty if I only got a regular jersey card for $90. Multiply that by 22 and that's a good way to have angry customers.
 
That used to be the case but I think the majority of the people participating in group breaks now know that they are going to be hit-or-miss and they join with eyes open. Chuck probably has a better feel for it that I do. People who don't do many group breaks probably won't do this one in particular, either. High stakes!
 
When it comes to group breaks, whether its MVP or The Cup, there is always upset customers and understandably so.

We're going to stick with our original 16 spot draft for this one. I really don't want to split up those sets.

I think that's the best way to do it. If the demand for this is as intense as I expect it to be, a complete set is still a very valued item. In that break format it could still easily be a top 5 pick depending on the quality of the auto-mem cards and it always comes down to collector preference.

If you were going to go the larger group/break the set(s) option you probably really don't want to go much higher than, say, 30 people at $100. That way at least everybody is assured of a jersey card, let the guys in it vote on whether to count the base set as one hit, and go from there.

I have a want list to acquire a two colour jersey for all the members of the 2010 team Canada Olympic gold medal team. So that 22 jersey set looks pretty ideal for what I want. However, my want list has what I thought was a full roster of 23 players on it. Specifically, this set appears to have everyone except Scott Niedermayer. I have to admit I pulled the list from I don't know where, so that could be an error on my part. However, I think I see him in the front row and just right of centre for this team Canada photo:

I really want to do the jersey set, but it seems kind of a shame if one of the players is missing. Any ideas on why Niedermayer was left out or if he'll be a late announcement?

EDS, I'm always waiting to see which photos they use. If this 22 jersey set doesn't show all the players in their 2010 Olympic jersey, it would feel like a bit of a disappointment. Hopefully they are using 2010 images.

I'm pretty sure the prices you're using are US dollars, no? and the $3000 that we're speculating on is in CDN dollars. So currently that's a big difference. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I highly doubt that any images from Vancouver will be used - IOC licensing would make it pretty much impossible to happen with the cost involved, and you would probably see a bit of airbrushing to remove any IOC/COC marks that can be seen on the pictures - especially the decals on the front of the helmet, the Vancouver 2010 logo on the left arm and the COC patch on the back of the jersey - not to mention the boards or any other federation mark if it is a picture that has another player in it. The only way I can see it is the posed photos in those jerseys where they can crop it.

As far as why Niedermayer isn't in the jersey set - the only thing I can think of is that they do not have a current deal with him since he retired and is no longer a member of the PA. IIRC - they did use his jersey in 2012-13 SPGU so they would have the material.
 
As Hama pointed out, Upper Deck does not have an image rights deal with Niedermayer so they were unable to make his card. Niedermayer declined to work out a deal unfortunately.

No, no worries on my part. I just wanted to make sure I was on the same page, I can figure out the difference myself. I just want a box of this so bad I think I'm trying to come up with reasons to justify buying one, lol.
