Anyone else noticing the big guns heading overseas for Team Canada at this year's World Championships? It's normally a 'D' team but this year is as close as I've seen to Canada fielding a 'B' team. Seguin, Hall, Eberle, Spezza, MacKinnon, Giroux, Duchene, Ekblad... shame that Benn and RNH both declined due to injury. I will most certainly be watching some games in the wee hours of the morning.

I also heard a rumour the Team Canada GM had reached out to Connor McDavid's agent to see about his availability. How awesome would that be? Anyone hear if Eichel will join USA?

I'm very impressed so far with our roster, but so much of our success will depend on how quickly the team can mesh. It's definitely a good group.

I look forward to this tournament every year, and I've already printed off the schedule so I can make sure to take some time out of the workday to watch our games.

There's no way McDavid is going if he's smart - it would be a bonehead move from a risk point of view since he doesn't yet have an established NHL contract. How much insurance do you have to carry on him if he goes, on that off chance he suffers a career ending injury?

Cory

Not real big up front but fast which should help on the big ice. Not real confident in the goaltending or D but lets hope for the best.

Crosby just added to the Team Canada roster. Wow, should be fun to watch these guys play together.

I was pretty shocked when I heard that he'd agreed to join the team. Good on Sid for extending his season.

If these guys can develop chemistry, they're going to be a dangerous group. Tons of firepower up front, and a solid group of d-men.

I think they have 3 spots open. I would love to see Horvat and perhaps Pietrangelo and/or Bouwmeester added to the roster. Or Jaden Schwartz?

I don't think they've invited a third goalie yet. Perhaps M-A Fleury?

Is this the best roster Canada has ever had in this tournament? Seems like it will be a walk in the park if I'm not mistaking lol. Have any other roster other then Canada and US been released?

I think Canada has had a handful of decent teams over the past 20 years or so but I think this one features the best young and upcoming talent, no doubt. If I'm not mistaken, Crosby is the team's oldest forward so far at 27.

EDIT: Spezza is the old man up front. Crosby is 2nd oldest.

Cant believe they are taking Mike Smith over MAF honestly ...Fleury was the pens best player all year including playoffs

I don't think there's room for Schwartz, as they've already got 14 forwards on the roster. He would be an upgrade over some current choices but I don't think forwards are the priority. I'd love to see those two d-men added, especially Pietrangelo.

Nick - They didn't choose Smith over Fleury, they named those goalies while Pittsburgh was in the middle of their series. You don't want to have only one on the roster hoping for another to be eliminated.

Mike Smith wasn't good at all this season. Wow.

As per Craig2, I stand corrected - choice was made while Pittsburgh was active. That being said, Mike Smith was still bad all season.

Name a goalie that has ever not been "bad" on the Cyotes. Mike Smith will do just fine I doubt he'll even lose a game.

Goaltenders last year were Scrivens, Reimer and Peters (Hurricanes). I think Mike Smith is an upgrade over any of those guys.

Arizona Coyotes goalie Mike Smith had a HUGE drop off from the Phoenix Coyotes goalie Mike Smith of the previous 3 years - big hit to GAA and a dip in Sv%. Mike Smith isn't the goalie he was in 11-12 when he came 4th in Vezina voting. He wasn't the goalie he was in 12-13 or 13-14 when he was at least league average (or slightly better). This season, Mike Smith was BAAAD.

That being said, I don't know if there were any other options for Team Canada.

Great comeback win by Canada vs Sweeden, down 3-0 and win 6-4. Pretty much locks up the group for Canada considering they've already beat Czech and now Sweeden.

I'm enjoying these games more than the NHL playoffs.

Imagine an ice surface big enough that players can actually find open space, and officials who don't swallow their whistles after the first period...that's what this tournament has offered, and it's the best hockey I've seen in a long time.

I'll watch through to the Stanley Cup Finals and I love the NHL game, but the officiating and abundance of super low-scoring (and low scoring chances) games gets old.
