The fight for last overall

I can't see Arizona trading OEL even one-for-one for Austin Matthews, so the thought that they would trade OEL plus draft picks is ludicrous. OEL is one of the top 5 young defensemen in the league, and currently the cornerstone of the Arizona franchise. Sidney Crosby himself wouldn't put butts in the seats in Arizona, so I don't see what the draw would be for them to draft Matthews anyway. He's a good player, but he is far from the type who would be a franchise saviour.

I'll disagree Crosby wouldn't put butts in the seats but do agree OEL is one of the top 5 young defensemen in the league. And a great dman is harder to find than a scoring forward, can't see AZ doing this ever. They might try and get him if they don't draft him but I would imagine it would be a package with someone like Dylan Strome and others.

I think the Kings need Matthews. Our team needs an Auston, different spelling aside. :D

Myself, I would rather keep Dylan Strome. :)

Domi + Arizona's 1st was being thrown around as a possible package to trade up.

That won't happen either.

Domi has proven to a great player already and is building a real chemistry with Duclair and some of the others top players.

Domi may end up being better then Matthews.

I do love rumors though. LOL

Sad to see 5 out of the worst 6 teams in the league are Canadian... with Montreal and Ottawa not far behind -_-

Sad, but an anomaly. It could be any team, anywhere, it's just the Canadian teams have the crappy management and front office personnel. May sound harsh, but it is very true.

Exhibit A, Edmonton. How do eff up having FOUR #1 picks in 6 years so badly? :duh:

I will say a lot of players probably prefer the states for tax reasons and quality of life. Texas, Florida, and I believe Tennessee, are favorable tax markets. Cities like San Jose, Anaheim and Denver offer very good family living and temperate climates which is a huge draw for most of these guys.

But I digress, it will be interesting to see who gets it. I would enjoy seeing Matthews with Arizona because they have a lot of young talent and he is a local product. Calgary would be a ton of fun as well with Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, etc. I think Buffalo would be another good fit with the Eichel/Matthews USA connection. Toronto could REALLY use a headliner rookie as could the Nucks. Vancouver would be cool to see the Sedins pass the torch of sorts to a franchise type player. Edmonton?

I can't wait for Ottawa to sneak right in there and steal Matthews away from them all. :spam::banned::sens::sens::sens:

Leafs have climbed. Maybe EDM gets Buffaloed and Leafs get the first pick. Maybe? Can a guy dream?

Matthews would be a perfect replacement for Johansen. But with Columbus luck, they won't get it. I will settle for the 2nd or 3rd overall pick. Jarmo would be happy to draft a fellow Finn. There was a rumor a week ago saying if Columbus got 1 of the top 3 picks, they would try to go after another top 3 pick to draft both Finnish players. But are they saying that just because Jarmo is Finnish?
