UD Redemption Break (Replacements Requested)

I know what the problem is. They make way to much product, they can't even control it. Hockey has over 20 different sets this last year and this year.

Does anyone think that OPC's PREMIER product will be able to hang with THE CUP ? also, after seeing the UD BLACK inserts in this years ICE...is that a preview of an upcoming release of UD BLACK HOCKEY ? i hope so, because the basketball product is incredible.

Hold on a second here Cory. This is not the typical UD QC issue we are talking about. This is a specific issue with a specific product. Yes, UD has poor QC across the board. However, this is a completely isolated issue. The QC on this product was worse then anything they have ever produced, and specifically because of the new facility these cards came out of. They knew the defect rate was way higher on this product, yet they packed it out anyways. How would most people know this product was coming out of the new facility before it did? Most people I know who ripped it either pre-ordered, or bought it the day it came out. The massive QC issues and reason for the QC issues did not come out until a couple days after it went live. I think a lot of people who normally would have bought boxes or cases would have passed and just sniffed out singles if they knew how horrid the QC was on the product before it was released, and they certainly would have passed once they found out UD was not going to supply additional (or any) replacement inventory.

You're right - SPGU was terrible and I'll accept that it's a complainable offense. I wasn't directing my comment solely at SPGU though, and that's my fault for quoting you in a general sense when you were speaking specifics. Sorry about that.

But back to my general feel, I still don't understand why people expect something out of UD that they've rarely shown, and with their QA/QC sliding, why do people expect it'll be better or even the same from product to product?

I hear ya Cory. To answer your question, I guess it's just "hope". I've enjoyed cards since I was a kid, and I enjoy cards now with my son. I would love to step away and never touch another piece of cardboard, but that means stopping something my son and I have in common, and enjoy. I know as long s Upper Deck is around they won't change, but some of us still hold onto the hope that they will get the message and make changes for the better of the hobby, not just their wallets.

Just what Upper Deck needs to do, supply another product to the marketplace. They should get their house in order first before they pump out another product just for the sake of acquiring more sheckles from us collectors. Bring the quality, the pride, and most importantly, the service so sorely lacking from the house that McWilliam built back to the hobby. Until that happens that flushing sound you hear is Upper Deck traveling to your septic tank in the back yard. -Mike :)
