Another great main card, and the prelims have some really entertaining fights too. Week three of four straight UFC cards. No burnout for me . . . yet. Excited to see Gil in the UFC (finally) and also looking forward to see how Mein looks on a five week turnaround.

Main Bouts (on Fox):
Benson Henderson (18-2; #1 Lightweight) vs. Gilbert Melendez (21-2; #2 Lightweight)
Frank Mir (16-6; #7 Heavyweight) vs. Daniel Cormier (11-0; #4 Heavyweight)
Nate Diaz (16-8; #4 Lightweight) vs. Josh Thomson (19-5)
Matt Brown (16-11) vs. Jordan Mein (27-8)

Preliminary Bouts (on FX):
Chad Mendes (13-1; #3 Featherweight) vs. Darren Elkins (11-2)
Norman Parke (17-2) vs. John Tuck (7-0)
Francis Carmont (20-7) vs. Lorenz Larkin (13-0)
Ramsey Nijem (7-2) vs. Myles Jury (11-0)
Joseph Benavidez (17-3; #2 Flyweight) vs. Darren Uyenoyama (8-3)
Tim Means (18-3-1) vs. Jorge Masvidal (23-7)

Preliminary Bouts (on Facebook):
T.J. Dillashaw (7-1) vs. Hugo Viani (7-0)
Anthony Njokuani (15-7) vs. Roger Bowling (11-3)
Clifford Starks (8-1) vs. Yoel Romero (4-1)

The Tuck/Parke fight is off now. Tuck's injured, and it's too late to find a replacement. Shame for Parke since I'm sure he's itching to get back in there. Dillashaw/Viana comes up.

A couple random observations I had...

-Roger Bowling cutting to lightweight is crazy talk. He looks drained at welterweight even though he's on the shorter side. I'm interested in seeing if he makes the weight easily and goes from there.

-Diaz is a sub specialist, and Thomson's never been subbed. In fact, the only person to stop Thomson is the Yves Edwards once in a lifetime kick from 2004. It's crazy to think that out of all the ridiculous competition Thomson has faced in his career, a fluke is the only thing that has stopped him thus far.

My personal feelings on Mir/Cormier...I'm just not feelin' it. This is the least interested I've been in a fight since maybe Rory/BJ Penn. Even Fiona Muxlow/Cyborg Santos held my interest better than this. I left a message on a buddy's Facebook wall this morning explaining it like this - I like Deep Purple, and I can tolerate Whitesnake. If David Coverdale were to announce that he was leading both bands simultaneously and doing a dual headlining tour, I wouldn't go anywhere near it. I enjoy Mir fights, and I enjoy Cormier fights. I just don't have any interest in watching this one outside of seeing what Jackson's training camp Frank Mir fights like.

Looking forward to Benavidez/Uyenoyama the most though.

Funny you say that, I've been pondering what I want more. Revengence for Kid Yamamoto or revengence for Uru****ani. I'm leaning more towards wanting revenge for Kid.

Hahaha, I forgot this fight had 'other' repercussions for you. I guess you wouldn't be upset with a double KO

Everybody made weight, for me personally, I am really looking forward to the Bendo/Gil, Cormier/Mir, and Mein/Brown fights on the main card, and the Mendes/Elkins, Joey Beefcake/Uyenoyama, and Dillishaw/Viana fights on the undercard.

I think the likely early candidates for fight of the night are the Main Event, Mein/Brown, and Njokuani/Bowling. Overall this is a stacked card with some really good matchmaking. So looking forward to this after a long, crappy week at work.

Benson Henderson (155) vs. Gilbert Melendez (154)
Daniel Cormier (235) vs. Frank Mir (257)
Nick Diaz (156) vs. Josh Thomson (155)
Matt Brown (171) vs. Jordan Mein (170)
Chad Mendes (146) vs. Darren Elkins (145)
Francis Carmont (186) vs. Lorenz Larkin (186)
Ramsey Nijem (156) vs. Myles Jury (156)
Joseph Benavidez (125) vs. Darren Uyenoyama (125)
Tim Means (156) vs. Jorge Masvidal (156)
T.J. Dillashaw (136) vs. Hugo Viana (135)
Anthony Njokuani (155) vs. Roger Bowling (156)
Clifford Starks (185.5) vs. Yoel Romero Palacio (185)

Freaking Josh Thomson. I picked him to win (a decision) but I did not expect him to knock out Nate. Dominant, give him a top-5 fight. Maybe he can finally fulfill some of that massive potential he's always had.

$50K Bonuses: Fight of the Night: Brown/Mein; 2x KO of the Night: Yoel Romero and Josh Thomson.

So good calls there to cap a night with some awesome violence. Very fun card top to bottom.
