Upper Deck Champs - Hockey's A&G?

What an original idea! A&G already has their fan base. Unless UD completely blows the idea into the stratosphere, this will simply be looked at as them imitating Topps which I am sure will flatter Topps completely.

Oh undoubtedly. Remember when UD created Vintage in 00-01, trying to sway collectors' attention away from the pending Heritage product? Yeah that worked really well - everyone made Heritage set of the year that year, partly because it looked 100x better than the cheap rip-off.

Now, I'm willing to bet Topps puts a couple hockey players in A&G

Upperdeck cant get a simple thing like putting a piece of jersey into a corresponding card with the play on it properly.
You think upperdeck can handle putting a fossil in a card?

Im gonna dig up my dog fluffy from the back yard and and tell upperdeck its a taradactyl. Then slowly buy him back 1 card at a time.

Instead of putting out more useless products. Why not concentrate on their customer service? Bunch of friggen idiots over there.

Their hockey product is dead in the water, why not try something new? It's going to fly off the shelves.

A&G did this decades ago and Topps revived it a few years ago. UD is just showing their inability to create an imaginative, new idea. This is far from new.

Silly question....but if its retail only, won't pack searchers have a field day with this?

Besides that, I'm in. This product combines my love of hockey with my love of dinosaurs. All that's missing are redemption cards good for Chipotle tacos & burritos.

I think its interesting. I like the A and G stuff, but have no use for baseball so I never bought any. This will fit my collecting habits, despite its lack of originality.

If you like hockey and dinosaurs check out a player named Chris Chelios with the Red Wings....:D

Okay, my turn...

I would laugh beyond repair if someone here pulled a t-rex card and the mem piece was a purple felt swatch. Sing with me now..."I love you, you love me, we're a happy family..."

Okay, the joke bombed. Hopefully UDs original idea here doesn't.

That's all he's good for. Cut 'em up!

Man am I glad I stopped collecting hockey back in February. Even as a full-time non-sports collector, this sounds like a ridiculous idea.

I would loved to have been in that new product idea meeting!

While the inspiration may not be UD's own, I commend them for thinking outside of the box. Remember, they're the only game in town for hockey. So since Topps can't do A&G for hockey then UD is taking advantage and providing "A&G" for hockey.

Whether some people like the idea of this product or not, there are 30+ product releases and this one is different. I won't knock UD for releasing this product. I'll continue to knock them for not strengthening the hobby by oversaturating the market with the dozens and dozens of other products that fall under the category of yet another product release.

Way to go UD! Take one of the only unique products Baseball has and mass market something exactly like it with a different name. Does UD have to drag down EVERY SPORT because of their Hockey Monopoly?

Ditto. I loved the idea of Topps bringing back A&G, but I don't want a stack of baseball cards either.

What some of you are calling innovation, I will label as desperation.

What a sad sad day this has become, when the hobby has to look outside the sport for something "innovative"...

Dinosaur and Endangered species stuff belongs in museums, not cardboard.

It looks like the C55 stuff that was done a few years ago...

And I'm sure the folks at Topps are smiling - imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Not my cup of tea. I like my hockey cards to be about hockey, but I suppose I'm old-fashioned that way. I sometimes even read the backs of the cards
