I have not gone to the Big One for a several shows now and I have some questions to help with my decision to go or not. If I go will it be worth it to book tables?

For those of you who have setup as dealers, have your past sales been enough to recover your costs (product, tables, hotel, travel, etc) and what do you think sales will be like at this one, above/below your sales averages? What kind of product are you carrying low/mid/high end cards, wax, other memorabilia for your sales numbers. I would be by myself so are your neighbouring dealers still very good at watching your table while you shop?

For those of you who are buying what are you looking for? low/mid/high end cards, current year or older cards, wax, other memorabilia?

Dale told me of two hotels with special rates, the Empire Landmark Hotel and the Days Inn. Which hotel do most people stay at and which one has the better bar / Saturday night party.

Lastly, the most important question, is there a Tim’s between the favourite hotel and the show? If there isn’t a Tim’s nearby is the coffee at the show good?

I will be attending the show as a buyer. I bring/budget anywhere from $500 to $1000 and see where it takes me. Some shows, I've found a few cards I really wanted/needed and go home with cards + $0, the last two shows I've attended I've went home after spending about $150 and honestly, that's because they aren't many new dealers with new inventory. With 50% of the tables being people that set up at Bonsor monthly show, I generally skip their tables and concentrate on dealers who are either from out of town or have new inventory.

Currently, most of my wantlist is for low/mid end cards but I'd also pick up things that catch my fancy. I primarily collect Canucks stuff - not everything, but my collection is Canucks-centric.

Last time I brought $1000 and walked out with $600 or so remaining. Think I spent around $190 on 2 boxes and the rest were on singles. The last show and this up coming show I have decided that I'll only spend on nice cards for my p.c.(only Rick Nash,Fredrik Norrena, Jared Boll, and Johan Franzen. Might look for Leetch cards but every other player I collect will be off limits) or cards for my sets. I won't buy any low ends cards, even for my p.c. unless it's like $2 ot $3. I think thats why I left the show with lots of money. Before I would spend my money on low end as well and would never walk out with money left over. I might buy a box or two again depending on hte price and how much I have left as I would prefer to walk out with cash in my wallet. I guess I'll spend some money on supplies/beckett aswell.

Last show was disappointment for me. Noone has any high end or low numbered parallels of Norrena,Boll, and Franzen cards that I need. They also don't have any of the Signature Swatches I need. I think I ended up buying two nice Nash cards and those two came from the same person (RAVMAN) because the guy I usually buy the Nash cards off of didn't show up last time.

Can't help on the other questions.

Last Big One, I picked up way more Bergeron cards that I ever thought even picking up a /5 BAP Auto card.

....Please Bring all the Bergeron you have! lol
 
I'm setting up the HI / IE booth again at the show. The last show was quite good with attendance, partially due to the event being reduced from 3 to 2 days, plus having a couple amazing autograph guests.

I would think this would be a better show, considering ITG is setting up their 1972 redemptions, plus another strong autograph list. I can't tell you how to run your business, but there are some heavy hitters coming to this show with $$ to spend.

The after-show events are currently planned for a Canucks game at a pub, a poker game at the hotel and who knows after that. I'll still be surprised if we leave the pub on time ;)

I missed you at the last show. It would have been nice meeting you but maybe next month? The closest I got was when I bought a HI shirt and Matt had to phone you for a price or something like that.

I'll be there. Have been the last four or five Vancouver big shows.
 
I will be there but I went down to 1 table instead of 7. I found that selling wax was difficult as you sell it and make 1 or 2 dollars a box I had to sell way to much to cover my costs. I brought everything from supplies and wax to low/mid end with some hi end, commons and supplies. I found that all the expenses and work don't make it worth attending profit wise but it is great for PR as my store is only an hour away.
 
I'm going to be at this one.

On a side note (sorry for thread stealing), I am still looking to unload 3 3200 boxes full of base. If anyone is buying please let me know. If noone is, someone just pm me and I'll donate them to you, they are taking up my space =/

try wild bill....i remember him looking for base.....05-06 and newer or somthing....send him a PM hes on the site
 
I'll be there after missing the last few. Looking forward to it and I'm sure I'll bust more than I need to. Especially The Cup and 09-10 Exquisite.
 
Eric...there's a Tim Horton's somewhere down Commercial Drive, but it's nowhere near the Croatian. Moreover, the closest Tim's (Lougheed and Gilmore in Burnaby) has lineups 5-10 people out the door during setup time in the morning.

Your best bet is to make friends with someone that lives near a location on Kingsway. I do, but I'm not sure I'll be there either day right now.
 
Thanks for all of the replies. I am still undecided if I will make this a social holiday, just buying and trading, or to make this a working holiday by setting up a table.

The one question that I still have is which hotel do most people stay at? I prefer to be at the one that is closest to the Saturday night party. This is very important to me because I can't stand city traffic. I want to drive to the hotel and park it for the weekend.
