The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms with defenceman Slava Voynov on new six-year, $25 million contract, with an annual cap hit of just over $4 million.

The new deal cannot be signed until July 5.

Voynov just completed his three-year entry-level deal and was eligible to become a restricted free agent on July 5.

The 23-year-old blueliner had six goals last season in 48 games, and had career highs in assists (19) and points (25). He also contributed six goals and seven assists in 18 playoff games.

Now I hope the Kings can get Scuds signed

Sorry Marko but with this signing i think scuds is gone, just don't have the cap space for him (unless someone that makes a good amount of $ gets traded)

Love the signing though. Already a great puck moving defenseman with room to grow even more. Dude is a beast but doesn't get the attention he deserves behind doughty. 6 more years of both doughty and voynov in our top 4? Love it

Go :kings:

What is the status on Mitchell? Is he back next season or will he be off the books? Also Penner may not be coming back either.

I think that is still up in the air and will have a big impact on what the kings do next season. If he comes back, it's great and they don't even need scuderi with regehr already signed, but if he doesn't at least he goes on LTIR and his cap hit comes off and they can get another #4 defenseman to play with voynov. I'm really hoping he comes back though.

Thought I saw that he started skating again, but with everything that happened with him after they won the cup who knows. I'm actually not even sure if anyone knows what really happened for his setback (at least I don't know)

Good for the Kings, they've built something good. A cup last year, a great run again this year, and a bright future with some young stars and some $$ to spend.

you know im a happy man :)

he is gonna be a great D-man for years to come.

the kings future is brighter with this 6 year addition
